might seem odd but I feel the need to specify at what period these bands are my favourite, because most of them have done stuff before or after that I don't care for

Radiohead (OK Computer to I Might Be Wrong EP)
    Manic Street Preachers (Holy Bible)
    Akercocke
    Electric Wizard
    JK Flesh
The Bug (Ragga/Dubstep phase from after "tapping the conversation" up to the "Filthy" EP)
    NIN
    The Doors (first two albums)
Marilyn Manson (Portrait to Live album)
Public Image Limited (first two albums)
Prodigy (up to fat of the land)
    Nirvana
    Smashing Pumpkins (Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie)
    Joy Division
    Aphex Twin
    NWA
    Coil
Metallica (kill em all to Master of Puppets)
Black Sabbath (s/t to Master of Reality)
    Pantera (CFH to live album)
    Dead Kennedys
Rage Against the Machine (yeah I know it's corny adolescent leftism but I would be lying if I said it didn't kick my arse)
    Led Zep (I-IV)
    The Cure (faith to disintegration)
    Ministry (twitch to filth pig)

RE: RATM--adolescent? Maybe, but those three albums have held up very well. Killer band too. Love Audioslave too. I was listening to Revelations today and that's such an underrated album.

The other day, I was thinking "Top 10 bands, that would be a fantastic topic for ETS" So, I did a search to see if it existed already. It doesn't already exist, but wow... top 25??? Holy smokes you guys are crazy... I could come up with 25, but I mean, 10 is more fun. Trimming the fat. Keeping the best of the best. More challenging that way as well.

    1. NIN
    2. Rammstein
    3. KMFDM
    4. Ghost
    5. TOOL
    6. Covenant
    7. Foo Fighters
    8. Rancid
    9. Marilyn Manson
    10. Avatar

Those are definitely my top artists. The top 5 are pretty much set, the bottom 5 might move up and down depending on my mood.

Honorable mentions in no particular order would include:

    David Bowie
    Clawfinger
    Priest
Offspring (up to about Americana. Post Americana Offspring is trash)
    ohGr
    Puscifer
    A Perfect Circle
    Imperative Reaction
    Pain
    Prick
    PIG

    25? These are the bands/artists I religiously follow/adore:

    1. Trent Reznor (NIN, HTDA, soundtracks)
    2. Maynard James Keenan (Tool, APC, Puscifer)
    3. Anthony Green (Circa Survive, Saosin, solo, other projects)
    4. Archive
    5. Thom Yorke (Radiohead, solo, Atoms For Peace)
    6. Deftones
    7. The Mars Volta
    8. Travis
    9. Pink Floyd
    10. (so many bands I love, but none that I highly regard like the others in that list)

I might have cheated, but that's how it works for me. It's not NIN I specifically love, it's all of Trent's works. It's Deftones I love, not Chino's sideprojects. Make sense?

I listen to a lot of punk. A lot of it. So I'm gong to list some of my favorite non-punk bands and then go for my 25 favorite punk bands.

    Non-punk:

    1. NIN
    2. Coil
    3. PIG
    4. HTDA
    5. Skinny Puppy
    6. Pigface

    Punk (in no particular order):

    Zounds
    Societic Death Slaughter
    Discharge
    Doom
    Crow
    Gloom
    Disclose
    Zyanose
    Electro Hippies
    Vermin
    Crass
    Amebix
    DIRT
    Hellbastard
    The Mob
    Poison Girls
    Effigy
    Rudimentary Peni
    Deviated Instinct
    Not A Cost
    Icons Of Filth
    Mommy
    Infantile Dissention
    Instinct Of Survival
    Honey Bane

I'm missing sooooo many fucking crucial beloved bands. Mostly anarcho-punk or crust. This doesn't even scratch the surface for me. Find myself drifting mostly towards UK and Japanese stuff.

26/27 it seems wrong to not name check Bowie & Gary Numan on the list, certainly they are more iconic than some on my list, but this isn't an objective best list.

@wizfan hahaha, i didn't see your list yet. But seems like we got similar tastes.

It was a hard list. I got a dozen more artists that I'd love to include, but had to pick the best.

Yes! Daft Punk. Whatever happened to these guys? They just dropped off the face of the planet, or at least the face of live existence. Been waiting for a Daft Punk tour for eons... These guys are the TOOL of the electronic world when it comes to touring. What's up with that? I see their name on basically every single "who do you want to play XX Festival" year after year. These guys would make a killing touring now with how big the Electronic scene has become over the years.

I'm surprised they never toured for their last release, or even did an Alive 2017 tour... since they seem to like to tour every 10 years on the 7's... 1997...2007... and then... nothing.

borderline heresy that you've purposefully discarded ....AJFA. that album is amazing and arguably the band at their peak.

Well, Random Access Memories won them a Grammy and was one of most celebrated albums of 2013 so they didn't really need to tour. I would go nuts if they started doing the festival circuit again, but they don't necessarily need to anymore it feels like unfortunately.
