Easily the best thing I saw all day. Those special features fucking cracked me up. My favorite was the "The Kids Aren't All Right" one. I wonder if Criterion underestimated how many people would have legitimately bought that if it were real. Because everyone I've seen, has said that they'd have bought it in a heartbeat.

Pretty bored by July's releases. Hopefully August is much better.

I'm still waiting word for both Y Tu Mama Tambien and Breaking the Waves on their Criterion releases suggested from the New Year's Eve cartoon.

It's not a very good film though it has its moments including Vilmos Zsigmond's cinematography and David Mansfield's direction. Besides, I think it needs it display the film's original long cut and the re-released shortened version to understand what Cimino had to do to re-release the film.

Is Criterion having a sale right now? I notice a bunch of titles (blurays) are $20 and under on Amazon.com right now.

    Thanks for your input.

I will rephrase. Is there any information on a Criterion sale that may be going on right now? I can't find anything, yet I notice a bunch of titles (blurays) are $20 and under on Amazon.com right now.

Amazon frequently holds Criterion sales. They're not like the B&N sales where it's all titles, but they do usually select a decent sized handful.

    August's lineup:

    Rosetta
    La Promesse
    The Royal Tenenbaums
    Weekend
    Lonesome
    Quadrophenia

I'm very excited about Tenenbaums coming to blu. It's about time!

The Dardenne Brothers films are the ones I want. I love Rosetta and I really want to see La Promesse. I hope it opens the door for more of their films including their earlier work prior to La Promesse. Hopefully for the eclipse series.

Just to let everyone know there are some pretty good deals on Amazon.

    Letter Never Sent $16.99

    Three Outlaw Samurai $17.99
    Days of Heaven $18.49
    The Makioka Sisters $18.80
    8 1/2 $18.99
    Stagecoach $18.99
    Identification of a Woman $19.02
    Modern Times $19.49
    The Seventh Seal $19.49
    The Red Shoes $19.99
    The Thin Red Line $19.99

    $20.99:

    12 Angry Men
    A Night to Remember
    Anatomy of a Murder
    Belle de Jour
    Broadcast News
    Godzilla
    Island of Lost Souls
    Kuroneko
    The Lady Vanishes
    The Last Temptation of Christ
    Traffic
    World on a Wire

I was able to pick up 12 Angry Men and Seven Samurai. This should hold me off until the next 50% off sale at Barnes and Noble.

I got BLU of Repulsion and World on a Wire for $20.99 then Last Year at Marienbad for $23.98.

(I also ordered BLU of Enter the Void and Red Riding Trilogy which were 50% off.)

I never realized Brief Encounter was on Criterion bluray, but it's only available in the box set "David Lean Directs Noel Coward." I would love to own Brief Encounter but is it worth the $52.99 for the boxset? Does anyone own this or have opinions on the other movies in the set, "In Which We Serve", "This Happy Breed", and "Blithe Spirit"?

I was looking into getting that a while ago but the reviews for it were not impressive. Plus I'm a sucker for Criterion.

Did anyone get the new Criterion newsletter? I think the puzzle picture is Paul Greengrass' Bloody Sunday.

    Yeah that's what I'm thinking.

And Orestes, there's another one called FakeCriterions which is really good too.

Any word on when exactly the june B&N sale will start yet?

No it was July, my credit card is still recovering. And I'm already making a list.
