This is the "NIN Confessions" thread? I confess that I realize that I love Radiohead way more than NIN. Like, on 1000 different levels.

And the other night, I stumbled upon a rerun of Radiohead on Austin City Limits and it blew my fucking mind and transported me to another world. And it was for "The King of Limbs," which I loved the second it was released, particularly when you see it live. I don't hear it as "tedious," at all; I'm already so heavily into classical, it's like symphonic music to me; layered, growing, changing, revolving, circular, etc.

I'm not sure if this is really a confession... but I can't listen to NIN very often.

You see, most of the time I prefer to be surrounded by silence, and when I do listen, I take to whole album, preferably from CD on 2 speakers when it's dark already, or headphones, and I let myself dive into it, unplug from the world outside (no chemicals taken). The thing is, the music I love the most, like NIN, is quite intense and after listening I feel somehow... complete, understanding the universe yet a bit more (what?), but also in a good way - tired. But I need to trust the music, trust the voice, trust the words, and I get that with NIN.

I can't imagine myself with headphones on the whole day, that would just... I don't know, I would be on the floor exhausted after a few hours. :-)

For example, I still feel inside my last evening listening to HM, right now I am at "if I could be someone else, I think I would for you"), and that was on Saturday.

Hope it makes some sense. I'm not complaining though, all is OK. :-)

How have I not done this yet?? I know what I'm doing when I get home!

I confess that part of me would be OK with it if Trent retired NIN tomorrow. I guess it's the same part of me that worries he'll do something really "meh" one day and it'll be all downhill from there. Go out on top and all that.

(Not an invitation for the Bills of the world to tell us that it's already happening … for the umpteenth time.)

    Huh.

    … Huh.

Well, I had similar feelings about Tetsuo and Zoo Station. Maybe he just doesn't take these things seriously enough?

And one could argue that Ripe (With Decay) would've been too much of a downer.

Did people not like that? I thought it was pretty neat, especially the orchestral version.

I definitely loved it. Never played the game, never will, couldn't be less interested in the series, but it was a cool piece of music that communicated a sense of grand scale and intensity. That ascending "Duh-duh-duh-duh-DUH-dum-dum-dum" bit towards the end (yeah, I'm not that good at discussing instrumental music) gives me chills.

I enjoyed the theme as well. That and Tetsuo make me hope that Trent and Atticus will score some sort of dark superhero film someday, because I think those tracks prove that they could do it.

i have the broken movie on vhs, got it in 1995 or 96. still have it somewhere. watched it once. that was more than enough.

purest feeling is still my favourite nin song, despite it sounding like it was recorded, drunk, in a toilet stall.

on a mushroom trip, my roomie was in this mode where he was insisting i talk to trent like he was there. i had nothing to say. lol.

i skipped the bowie side of the show because i was super stoned and super annoyed by the nin performance. (made the looooooooong bus ride back to ottawa a real fucking drag, i must confess).

i used to send ALOT of letters to the "black hole' (address inside phm, i think...or was it in broken? the p.o. box)

alt.music.nin was the first online group i ever joined.

Broken Movie's DVD version (posted by Trent to the pirate bay) is slightly longer, and better quality, than the old bootleg, if you're up for a second watch.

And the whole of the PF album is amazing

Agree with Allegro about King of Limbs. That album was fantastic and really underrated. I'd put it over In Rainbows, which gets lots of love from critics.

    My confession: 90s NIN> 90s Radiohead. 2000s Radiohead>2000s NIN

    Call me Bill

This is blowing my mind as much as finding two separate people that enjoyed The King Of Limbs! My mind is shattered.

If you love Further Down the Spiral you will love Tetsuo. Most industrial, noisey and brain-melting thing Trent's made since.
@howdidislipinto I totally love TKOL and Separator is one of my all time favorite Radiohead songs.

    I know. Sorry I'm such a disappointment.

While I'm on a roll, I've never listened to Purest Feeling or Maybe Just Once, either.

    ... or Ghosts.

But it's a whole demo album! Have you not heard Liar either then?

Also, Ghosts is the best NIN album, fix this egregious error.
