All this stuff that's going on about DC is making me wonder why they never had someone like what Marvel has in Kevin Feige who has managed to do such much for Marvel Studios and has continually delivered. They shouldn't be answering to a studio as Feige at least has found a way to deal with Disney and also get Amy Pascal to do a deal in having Spider-Man be in the MCU. Warner Brothers really just need to stop interfering and just figure out everything they're doing wrong and get someone who knows the comics and has been involved in films to look over DC and make sure they do things right.

Yes they need that type of guy. Directors sometimes dont like to work with those types of guys. Wheadon and Farvareu for example, ( Hell, watch the movie The Chef, I guarantee that’s about Disney and Feigie).

Look at Matt Reeves, he is taking his time with a script and such and WB is starting to get impatient.

What Disney and Feige have is special and dont know if anyone else can pull that off.

Don't forget though - while Feige has been the point man for a long time, he had to work with the Marvel Creative Committee (comic writers and Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter - who is the worst) and things weren't always so sunny, especially since both sides contributed good things and both sides were prevented from doing bad things. They had control over script decisions and story beats and a compromise would have to be met before proceeding. The MCC was finally cut out AFTER Civil War finished filming, so Feige has truly been the sole person in charge for a handful of films (starting with Dr. Strange but also excluding Spider-Man since Sony still has some control there).

Even though Feige is revered now, he still had to be shaped by some things and even though he effectively had the committee cut out, it was because the arrangement had worn thin and it was time for it to end. I'm hoping DC/WB could do something like this since there's always been that disconnect. Get a committee that has maybe Scott Snyder, Gail Simone, James Tynion, Jock, etc. on it who have legs and experience in that world so they can guide the new EP through all of this so that when a special moment is happening, IT FEELS SPECIAL.

I've seen Chef and I'm sure Disney and Feige knew that it was about them but they have no beef with Faverau since Faverau did appear as Happy Hogan in other MCU films since and did The Jungle Book for Disney. Plus, I think Chef was a film that Faverau needed to make after a period of big-budget films that overwhelmed and needed to do something smaller and get all of that frustration out of his system. And it worked.

I had just re-watched Everything or Nothing about the James Bond series as we all know why they're so successful and have stayed that way for so long. What Feige was to the MCU, I'm sure he learned his role from Cubby Broccoli who was the producer of the Bond films from Dr. No to The Man with the Golden Gun with Harry Saltzman and then going it alone from The Spy Who Loved Me to Goldeneye while grooming his daughter Barbara and stepson Michael G. Wilson into being the ones to take over as they would after Broccoli had passed away. And if it wasn't for Barbara Broccoli and Wilson and their determination to keep Bond away from outside forces including that asshole Kevin McClory, we wouldn't have Casino Royale and a template of what franchises should be. I'm sure Feige knows that and can always look at the comic books for resources in how to tell a story. The people in the Bond films are fortunate to have Ian Fleming's books as resources for ideas and Feige and Marvel have those comic books.

If only Warner Brothers could step back and give DC a chance to find people like that and be more patient in making sure things go well.

I really hope not. Ava is the kind of mind that is perfect to adapt this. Let her run with it.

Wow, another DC property that no one knows or cares about gets greenlit before all of the most obvious choices in the world. Furthermore , putting a property like that on the big screen is a Herculean task, and you gave it to a director who, while very talented & beloved, is coming off a, at best, middling project that didn't really deliver. Warner Bros. continue their winning streak.

Wait, wait. Its ok for marvel to launch their universe with a C list character like iron man, but its not ok for a new gods movie to be made?

The new gods. Which was created by one of the greatest comic book artist in Jack Kirby. Which spawned Darkseid, the very character that marvel ripped off with Thanos? Its ok for marvel to fucking do everything, but fuck dc right?

Remember when everyone said the Guardians Of The Galaxy was going to flop because no one knew who they were? How did that turn out?

Zack Snyder was the main problem with the movies that WB came out with( even though I enjoyed them). He is gone. Wonder Woman was great, Aquaman is buzzing incredibly. Alot of people are excited about Shazam( the original captain marvel). Like I said, WB has a good shot to make good dc movies from here on out.

As far as wrinkle in time, I have yet to see it, but the phrase “ unfilmable story” keeps popping up when its talked about.

Boss: "I don't get it. So they ended The Dark Knight Rises...with Batman still alive, and they just introduce Robin...and then that's it? I bet they're just waiting a while before they make the next one but it's just so dumb. If they're gonna do it they should just do it."

Me: "I guess, but Christopher Nolan isn't going back to that trilogy, neither is Christian Bale. It would be dumb if they went back and made a fourth movie to that trilogy without Nolan or Bale and all about Robin. The story was over. So there probably won't be anymore "Dark Knight" Batman movies."

Boss: "I mean yeah, but they still made Batman V Superman without either of them. So they already did exactly what."

    Me: "...But that's not...it's a different...*sigh* Nevermind."

BOTH points continue to surprise me every single day. ^^' It's hard to explain the differences to people who don't pay any mind to things like that.

This is the DC thread, man. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if Evans switched to DC in the future. I'm still bummed that J.K. Simmons abandoned Jonah Jameson in order to become Commissioner Gordon.

Pennyworth Batman Prequel Series Set at Epix

The DC Entertainment universe continues to grow as the MGM-owned premium cable network Epix has handed out a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for Pennyworth, a Batman prequel that will tell the origin story of the caped crusader’s best friend and butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

The drama helms from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller and is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The series is not a Gotham spinoff but is reportedly an entirely new story exploring Alfred’s origins as a former British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Bruce’s billionaire father, Thomas Wayne, in 1960’s London. Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred on FOX’s recently renewed Gotham, is not involved with the new project.

Heller will serve as writer and executive producer on Pennyworth, which marks a reunion with Gotham‘s Danny Cannon, who is also executive producing and will direct the pilot. Casting for the series has not yet begun and production will begin later this year. A series premiere is slated for 2019.

Epix president Michael Wright said: “As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series. We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny — along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon — on this fantastic origin story.”

“Michael and his colleagues have created the perfect venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on Pennyworth are thrilled to be on the Epix slate.”

Pennyworth comes on the heels of Epix’s recent pick upof ABC Signature Studio’s drama series Godfather of Harlem, starring and executive produced by Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, with Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein (Narcos) serving as showrunners. Both series are part of a growing slate of Epix originals, which includes the upcoming season two premiere of the critically-acclaimed dark comedy Get Shorty from MGM Television this summer.

Sounds like an Onion article. He's a great character and all, but is anyone really dying to see Alfred's origin story??

EXACTLY. It's seriously just like that. Can you imagine if Sony and DC/Warner Bros. teamed up to make a movie?

...why? Surely there are other actual hero's to make shows of (not to belittle Alfred) but come on! You have the WHOLE DC universe and you go with a show about Batman's Butler, that isn't even connected with the other Batman Prequel show that has his Butler!

Well, this is sorta out of the blue.

It looks Like Jared Leto's Joker movie is still a go.

He's usually a good actor, but I don't have much interest in seeing a movie based on Leto's version of the Joker. Suicide Squad sucked. The only redeeming thing in that movie was Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.
