Cheers! Links from nin.com helped people actually notice it - I think it's almost at its first birthday too.

Ontopic: I wonder if this will be on the LP too?

I'd suspect it'll make it's way on as a bonus track of something. May depend how it fits with the rest of the album.

love it. love the dichotomy of the quiet start with the synth heavy finish. This has me fully psyched for the LP (not that I wasn't already...)

    I love it!

I think it really showcases Mariqueen's voice where she was a bit too quiet on some of the HTDA tracks.

    I love the lyrics...

I shouldn't have listened to the cover first. Now that I'm giving the score a full listen, I just keep wanting it to be over so I can get to the cover. It's been stuck in my head all night.

Tremendous. Trent's backing vocals sealed the deal for me.

The feels I have for this song. Her voice is so much stronger than anything on the EP. And Trent's backing vocals...it's always nice to hear the angry voice come out.

I'm so fucking in love with this track. If the LP is anything like this, I am so stoked for it. This is better than anything on the EP (which is good in it's own right).

What is up with this? I hear literally no amount of Amy in Mariqueen's voice. Am I nuts or is everyone else?

I hear Mariqueen. I guess everyone gets out of it their own preconceptions. I will always think this version kills the original. As much as I liked Legend, this song always felt artificial. There's more of an authentic tone in this new version.

Nobody really hears Phil Collins, either.

I was working the door at a club in the 80s, and this isn't what I'd consider an "80s" song. Nor is it a typical Bryan Ferry song. Isn't it an outtake from Roxy Music's "Avalon?*" It's a schmaltzy song. That Fincher likes. For some reason. I'm withholding judgment until I see this movie, as I'm assuming Fincher has some kind of "reason" for wanting to use it.

*edit: I guess the Legend soundtrack was mostly Tangerine Dream (you probably remember them most for Risky Business) trying to be Vangelis' Bladerunner soundtrack.

Count me in the really, really liking it camp. And funnily enough considering Gilmour's involvement in the original, it very much felt like Gilmour's Floyd to me. '80s is sort of "in" right now with M83 and all, but I think this cover brings back a style of '80s music that isn't quite so vogue right now, and I dig it for that.

It's okay. The instrumentation's lovely and the lyrics feel sincere coming from Mariqueen's mouth, but the vocals as a whole sound a little stage school until they really kick in 2/3 of the way through. I think it is the breathy thing; it sounds a little put-on and childish.

As cheesy and unflinchingly 80's as the original is, I feel it more than I feel the cover. That's not to say I don't like the HTDA version, but I'm not 100% sold on it.

Better than the original. Original too cheesy for my taste. This new version is more emotional and for the first time, I'm diggin Mariqueen's voice. Anyone else get an Ultra era Depeche Mode vibe from it?

Seems like I'm in the minority but the HTDA version is vastly superior to the original. I had to look up the Ferry version when the cover was announced and thought it was terrible. Being born in the eighties its my generation, and I dig some of the music, even some really cheesy stuff but that song is just awful. TR could bang some spoons together and gargle the lyrics and it would be an improvement.

Cover or not, this is a really good song. First listen gave me chills. I dig the EP and am really stoked that Mariqueen's vocals are so powerful on this track.

HOLY SHIT BATMAN there is nothing to censor here? Fangirly even?

Technically not. You were a kid during the 80's so your taste wouldn't have been rounded yet; the only affinity I feel for the 90's (I was born in '89) is stuff I heard years later from the part of the decade when I would've been too young to know what the word 'music' meant. Not entirely nitpicking here—I consider myself a fan of 80's music, never having really lived to hear it first-hand, and I think the original is far and away amongst the least cheesy stuff put out at that time.

I was born in the mid 60's and was a teenager in the 80's, therefor it is MY generation. It's not when you were born, it's the years you really start listening to music and forming your taste in music, and that would be your teens.

I started listening to music before my teens - I'd say I'm a 90s kid musically, although I was born in 1990, so I did have the whole decade.

I did a little as well. Partly because I had a brother 6 years older than me and I took dance lessons. So I had a little exposure to some 70's rock and DISCO baby! But that quickly turned into a lot of Van Halen (not Van Hagar), Zep, AC/DC and "arena rock". The rest is history.

ETA: That's what so awesome about NIN...it translates to more than one generation and even the older halos sound relevant today.
