Partial NIN logo reminds me of this
yup, i was saying the same thing over in the russel mills discussion, lol
Yeah, its been brought up a couple of times before but it falls in line with the whole TDS theme. The artwork (ie: The teeth at the bottom of the tour page, Mills working on album cover again, the TDS font) and the sounds we're picking up within this track and too closely related for it to be a coincidence. Someone (their name is escaping me at this moment) brought up the idea that this album's theme might be along the lines of climbing up out of a downward spiral but who knows. All I know is that it's going to be exciting to see what else happens between now and September.
*EDIT* Spelling errors!

Umm... come on.
The song is pretty much the hand that feeds with the same old tired guitar tone he's used forever and simple drum machine pattern from the slip.
It has his recent signature upbeat playful singing style and pretty much everything else he's done in the last few cd's thrown in. So, because it has a TDS style guitar for the fade out come in it harkens back to the old days? no.
The only thing from the 'old days' that remains here are his lyrics which haven't progressed at all.
love the guy, love nin, can't wait for the concert but the song is meh. Low expectations for the album.
Is there a running list of all the TDS links/references?
The new song doesn't knock me off my feet, but it's still a quality lead single. The first verse has an underwhelming PHM vibe, and the chorus isn't exactly the catchiest. Once the extra wavy synth-thingy and guitar kick in on the second verse, though, it gets much better (also, kudos to the well-placed solo - Reznor's always been underrated in the solo department!)
Some of the synths remind me of "In Motion". alot. like they probably used the same one for this song.
edit: I had heard In Motion dozens of times before i saw Social Network, and was appalled that it was used for the party montage!!!!

i thought i was too old to care, i thought i needed to look into having this stupid fucking tattoo removed, i thought i'd moved past being a fangirl ...
nope. fucking great.
See, I don't hear anything that specifically reminds me of The Hand That Feeds, yet you'll swear up and down that it sounds the same. That just proves my point. People are hearing what they want to in the song, and the fact that there's no real general consensus as to what this song is means that it's not as simple as people are making it out to be.
I never said it did. I'm not sure why people are referencing TDS to be honest (aside from the artwork), but again, that just brings me back to my point about this being a song that isn't as easy to pin down as it might seem. So, because it has a TDS style guitar for the fade out come in it harkens back to the old days? no.
first few times I heard it, I thought it was the best song ever. As it is sinking in, I would say it's a cool song. It isn't miles apart from a song like Only or Discipline to be honest. I do dig the 80s synths tho...
The video was just released!
Edit: Oops. Just uploaded one with audio that isn't the worst thing in the world.

i THINK we can relax, man
Definitely sinking in now but at first listen it reminded me A LOT of Professional Griefers by Deadmau5 and Gerard Way. Also a good song btw
I'm digging the track more that I got to hear it in FLAC, other rips were poopys
I haven't been able to stop listening to this. I had a really crummy day at work and all of this awesome news has had me really excited and put me in such a better mood.
3rd listen and now i fucking love it. And i had a thought (which is usually dangerous, but here goes anyway.)
These lyrics could be interpreted in any of a dozen ways, but it really hit me that it sounds like a soldier's feelings coming back from war.
That means that the arg...just kidding
But seriously, with everyone home from iraq and whatnot...most of my friends who served damn sure "came back haunted."
As a side note: I find it revolting how a label is able & willing to spend so much energy and time on DMCA-takedown notices against filesharing sites on release day BUT at the same time doesn't see the necessity to just, you know, PUT IT ON MY FUCKING LOKAL ITUNES STORE SO I CAN DOWNLOAD IT LIKE THE REST OF THE FUCKING PLANET.
I am sick & tired of being treated like a second class internet user just for being german. I mean, okay, I get it, we do have a bunch of corrupt Nazis (the infamous "GEMA") that govern our "cultural landscape"... but still: Money talks, doesn't it?
I'm going to dance my ASS off to this track live.
