I'm willing to bet Lindsey Buckingham played on "While I'm Still Here."
I'm willing to bet Lindsey Buckingham played on "While I'm Still Here."
can genesis do anything without sounding scary as fuck?
Its a really smart record musically, very different. Instrumentation is real cool. (a fucking erhu?! a fucking sax?!?!)
If Lenny Kravitz and Trent Reznor made love to HTDA = "All time low"
interesting twist.
Hey guys, just got off work after a 12 hr shift and the few links I've tried are not as advertised...any assistance would be appreciated!!
With Eater of Dreams, I interpret it like this -- The voices of others (small and as insignificant as they should be) constantly telling you what to do are only going to eat away at your dreams if you don't listen to the only voice that matters - your own.
Far fetched probably, but that is what came to mind for me.
While I'm Still Here is fucking magical.
i've been lurking on ETS for quite a while now, and finally bothered to register just to join in on the praise - HM blew me away. I think the songs released before the leak were the weakest on the album. All Time Low, Various Methods of Escape, and Satellite just floor me. I think Trent has finally gotten comfortable releasingblatantly pop-influenced music (Everything being a pretty good example, ahaha). Sure, WT had some pretty generic pop influenced stuff that I totally dug, but it sounds like those influences are now properly integrated into NIN's music. Like, fuck me, Satellite could easily have had Justin Timberlake sing on it. I have a huge appreciation for the melodic and compositional sense that goes into well-written pop music, so to hear those qualities on a NIN record, and applied so effectively leaves me in love. Nothing will ever top TF for me, but this is a damn good second place.
I want to get the "Stay with me, hold me near, while I'm still here" line tattooed on me... Maybe not yet. But it's my absolute favorite part of the album.
Is anyone surprised Mariqueen isnt on the record at all?
More importantly @Porkins , what the hell is up with your track ratings after having the album for less than 24 hours?
Various method of escape=
On my fourth listen now, and right now, In Two, Satellite and the rest of the entire fucking album stand out to me.
I am loving this so much. I love the programming, the album continuity, the pacing of the songs. I am really fucking pleased with the entire album and it is a weird feeling to listen to a nin album and feel ok afterwards. Every nin album, kind of ends in a way that makes me sort of to extremely fucking sad when it is over, but I feel like Hesitation Marks comes to a triumphant conclusion, or at least a triumphant resolution at the end. That fucking sax, man, that fucking sax. The bookends are also great, I was disappointed with Eater of Dreams at first, but now I can totally see why it is there - or at least I see why I think it is there.
also, after this I want Trent and Olof Dreijer to start a band together.
ps. Everything totally works on the album. I figured it would, but I really hope people back off of the song. Trents album continuity is always top tier, and this is no different imho.
About to go listen to it in the dark on headphones.
just finished the record. some really touching and beautiful moments. My brain is kind of numb (in a good way). you can hear he was really inspired. I need to listen many many more times. solid. Well done Mr. Reznor, well fucking done
I hope I see Various Methods of Escape live just once in my life.
Oh dear lord, hear my prayer.
