I know this technically isn't the right place, but damn, that new forum welcome page is hilarious/awesome.

Stumbled upon an album/EP cover that reminds me of the original Bleedthrough artwork:

    She - Insomnia:

I remember I asked Rob a while back for a print of it, he said the art was still owned by people, I wonder if, when Interscope decide to release Bleedthrough because they're broke, it'll come with a nice big poster.

As much as I know that following The Fragile with a sci-fi concept album probably wouldn't have gone over as well (despite Year Zero killing it in that regard), I do kind of wish Bleedthrough happened instead of With Teeth. I liked the art direction better, and I seem to like the known-to-be-Bleedthrough-era songs best off W_T.

Edit: sheepdean, very interesting. The largest version I've found was on Rob's portfolio site, after chasing down the XML that feeds the Flash frontend.

I wish I could have the best of both worlds - mix that Bleedthrough graphic with the gorgeous turquoises and teals of With Teeth.

Yeah, apparently it's owned by NIN, who at the time were of course "owned" by Interscope, so Trent has some of the rights, Rob probably has some, and there's a person at a desk in a skyscraper who has 1% of the rights and probably doesn't even know what an iPod is. #musicindustry

I first read your statement as "gorgeous tortoises and seals of With Teeth", and was really confused. It could have lead to some interesting titles, though.

Always wondered why it was called With Teeth

I'll bet that was his original intention - there's a caged animal reference lurking in Right Where It Belongs. What if he was originally going to write a concept album about his favourite animals, with music built entirely from processed wildlife vocalisations? I can only imagine the pain and angst in the demo version of Love Is Not Enough, in which he sings about how much he'd adore a pet big cat, but can't have one because it'd be too dangerous.

    We've all been there, Trent.

I mean, the first line of the album is "watching all the insects march along". It's pretty obvious.

I heard it was originally planned to end the album with the cover of Several Species of Small Furry Animals...

I thought WT & Bleedthrough were the same thing? They decided on With_Teeth because Bleedthrough didn't sound right or can be misinterpreted.

Yeah, I think some of the songs were shuffled around and tweaked to remove the overarching concept of the album. What we got is more or less what we were going to get.

This is 100% true. However, you missed the part about why he changed things. There was one wildlife vocal that he couldn't find a way to properly filter:

Now you know who killed Bleedthrough

Just like she killed the Beatles.

There, now no one else has to make that joke.

To be fair, that joke line has been used since the album first came out. Both in "misheard lyrics" threads and in the old photoshop thread here on ETS.

Hell, go a google image search for the phrase.

True, but it still made me laugh. I had forgotten about his hidden and misheard love for dolphins.

You know, Trent Reznor being at the forefront of a revolution in musical distribution is all sweet and dandy, but then again I kinda miss the olden days when his stuff would just leak at any random day, weeks before the release.

Indeed! I actually never saw the movie because of this. But in hindsight, listening to [With_Teeth] a month in advance strikes me as a good deal. But back on (some) topic: I'm looking forward to the single release an the ep... the old NIN-goosebums are still there.
