Having said that all that, by the time Tool’s current tour dates are over, Fear Inoculum will be 5 years old!!! Hell, even Metallica didn’t tour the fucking black album for 5 years. So there’s always a bit of “who the hell do these guys think they are” when it comes to Tool.
I'd argue we're past the FI touring cycle and into the Tool-tours-constantly-regardless-of-whether-or-not-they-have-new-material phase. And they're still playing a lot off FI because it's what they're used to playing. And I'm not even saying that as a dig; they've just spent the last 15 years being a band that tours, swaps out a couple songs and visual, tours again, rinse, repeat. That's not necessarily a bad thing; it's just what they do.

Tool's FI tour cycle was disrupted by COVID back in 2020-2021. I don't have any issues with wanting to showcase that material more than their older albums for now. My hope is they're writing new material, however; and it doesn't take 3-4 more years to get a new LP.

Also, Danny is still a beast, but the amount of energy and athleticism he must maintain to drum at his level won't last forever. I hope they get something new out while he can still destroy it.

They aren’t touring for the people who follow them or have seen them like 4 times. They’re touring for people like me who have seen them twice and still love the multi-sensory experience.

    Calm down about the setlists.

I'm still annoyed they're not doing any Midwest date on this winter tour. I missed the show in my state in October by two days because of a trip I had booked ages before those shows were announced. I was jazzed to see they had dates for 2024, and then I actually looked at them....

For a cool $769.99 at the upcoming tour! Or a signed box-set for $2,500!

5 disc if you want an over priced collectors item that most local records shops cant even get rid of

3 disc if you want a more compact package and listening experience - less record swapping AND (to me) the 3 disc sounds better/better pressing

There's like a 20.00 price difference so I figured I'd ask an opinion on it.

I think the 3-record release supersedes the box by being less expensive and a lot less cumbersome - the only real appeal of the big box is the expanded artwork, I think. So if you're buying them to listen, just go with the 3-disc one.

Less swapping, yes, but more flipping. All you have to do is swap with the 5 disc set, no flipping at all.

Please know that I was by no means being sarcastic or snarky.

I think you can snag the 3 disc version for $58 and the 5 disc is like $98 (Amazon).

I prefer flipping than swapping haha -- the in and out of sleeves routine gets old -- dont mind a flip but just personal preference.

    I didn't get that impression.

Was 58.00 for 3 disc on Amazon (I got). 79.00 on discogs with shipping for 5 disc.

Thats not a bad deal for the 5 disc. My local record shop STILL has it on their shelf for $198. They are the only record shop within a 30 mile radius so they mark up everything. Recently bought a Boards of Canada record there for $40 (supporting local) and I almost cried when I saw it on Amazon for $20 hahaha
