A million listens later, and it is eventually discovered that this says 'Red Horse Vector' leading to http://www.redhorsevector.net

hmmmm... odd... I just tried condensing it into mono at that point and it's still not working for me. It does sound like it sort of phases out for a really brief moment there, but it doesn't go null. I tried using the Center plugin from Waves to isolate the center channel, and I got something there, but it's incredibly fast.

if i remember correctly (wich is not great odds) but I think it's was me I'm not had to do with red hoarse vector in the ARG probably not the best to ask

Since we're sort of on topi about this, what's the deal with the very faint voice/echo in The Pot right after the first line?:

"Who are you to wave your finger, you must've been out your hair"* (faint echo)

*And yes, he says "hair" even though head is what it should be. Fight me, bros.

I'm not sure what you're saying. There's an echo of the opening lines before he actually sings them, like a pre-echo. Is this what you're talking about?

No, like post echo. You can easily hear it even with cheap ear buds. It's right after he says "head" or "hair", whatever ones preference. Without listening to it I think it's an echo of the next line. (Eye hole deep...)

Maybe that "pre-echo" in The Pot was picked up from his earphones when he laid down vocals?

I know this isn't the place for it really, but I was mostly in the dark about the ARG, which I thought was entertaining but I just wasn't keeping up. Conceptually a neat idea...

I time stretched the audio, applied a band pass filter, used a plugin to isolate the center channel as much as possible (we're talking about a section of distorted audio that is blaring noise and bit crushed spasms), set it to mono, tweaked it in various ways...

I can now hear what sounds like the word "vector." WTF, how was this discovered? Is there a discovery thread? I find it almost impossible that this could have just been stumbled on. Perhaps there's something different about the originally leaked audio and the MP3 I just downloaded from iTunes.... kinda like the noise bit where the spectral analysis revealed the big alien hand thing?

There was a massive interview with Wired that could answer some questions about the ARG. I think they had fake people who could give the fans a 'push' if they weren't getting a particular clue. I remember the ARG for girl with the Dragon tattoo, there were definitely some characters who would appear out of nowhere with the required information
    https://www.wired.com/2007/12/ff-arg-reznor/

The best thing I read was this "It sounded better on paper than it actually did in the execution. But we had — I forget what they actually call them, but it's basically a focused cone of sound from these amusement parks and things so you could hear something in one corner but you don't — and if you get out of that very fine — if you were 30 feet away from here I could aim it at you and you'd hear it. If I aim it that way it disappears. So, we were trying to pump messages into people's heads at the show between acts. You'd be sitting back with this thing, aiming it, with an iPod with some scary message that we'd computer voiced —"
Wonder if anyone actually remembers a strange voice?

Same here. I really don't know how people could keep up with that thing if you have a job/kids/have to be someplace/etc. . Seemed like if missed something you're kind of SOL, never mind attempting to understand and comprehend all of it.

I imagine that last mash-up would speak to plenty of Tool fans, at this point.

This reminds of the wilderness years leading up to With Teeth, when we would play "find the log house" every time a new studio photo was posted..

I've actually read about that before, several times. It's admittedly intriguing, if not a tad bit obsessive. Perhaps it's time I give Lateralus credit for being more than just an Aenima retread..

Holy fucking synchronicity, batman. I was JUST showing my mother the fibonacci sequence in the song Lateralus.

    I don't think there's ANY way that's a fucking accident.

But the reason i was coming here was to ask you guys: what is the consensus on the "Holy Gift" theory?

Never heard of it, so just googled it. I honestly don't get what the purpose of it is or how Lateralus now has some significant or different meaning to it. Always thought of it as a great album that has mostly good songs but isn't a concept album.

What im saying is some people take too many hallucinagetic drugs and should probably stop.

Funnily enough, that was my reaction the first time I listened to The Grudge. It was actually the final tracks of the album (Disposition, Reflection, Triad) that caught me off-guard and made me appreciate Lateralus as a whole and dig deeper into it. Of course, nothing will ever top the "smack in the face" I felt when I first listened to Aenima, but Lateralus was a great step forward. 10,000 Days was a big step forward in some ways and a big step back in others. I enjoy 72826, Opiate and Undertow simply for having great alternative/grunge songs.

And that, my friends, is the definitive version of wizfan's overall opinion on Tool. I should wrap it in a blanket of T-shirts.

The Grudge may be my favorite hard rock song of all time. Ridiculous drumming, 80,000 riffs, great lyrics, a strong edge. It's almost perfect IMO. I think the screaming part could change, but other than that...

I'm quoting myself here not only because i'm insane, but because i wanted to make clear that i think that the fibonacci sequence being in Lateralus isn't an accident. It's NOT that i think that i was showing it to someone right before reading a post about it here "wasn't an accident."

    At any rate.

God DAMN that book about Maynard is interesting.
I mean listening to this guy sing for 25 years without really knowing or even caring to know a whole hell of a lot about him and then getting that much info is pretty fucking fascinating.

FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM TO HONOR 21ST ANNIVERSARY OF "PHOENIX LIGHTS" INCIDENT

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, apparently Spoiler: April's Fools ETS sounds like those unnecessary "GEDDIT YET? IT'S A JOKE SONG XD" last 20 seconds of "Maynard's Dick", so it had to be done, sorry.

    It won't affect policy.

And, as much as I personally feel that we should have gun control, we aren't going to. So arming up is a reasonable response to that impossibility.

That said, I don't, because I fucking hate guns, but everyone needs a hobby.

Oh, i wasn't JUDGING him for it.
Man, i'm a socialist but i'm still Texas bred and fed.

The only reason i don't shoot guns is that i know i'm not quite mentally stable enough or sober enough.
There are many times in my life that, had i had a gun, someone would have gotten shot (most likely ME.)

Sacramento is only about 3 hours from me and I just got a new job so I'll be able to afford it... But I'm also wondering if I should hold out for a hopeful Reno date. Ugh. I wish they could just announce all the dates at once.
