    2013 Music Appreciation Thread

I know we are only 4 days in but a plethora of great 2013 albums have already been released/leaked. Plus you should post what you are looking forward to.

I've heard the new Grouper, Cult of Luna and Yo La Tengo and they are all great.

    Looking forward too-
Confirmed - And So I Watch You From Afar, Steven Wilson, Atoms For Peace, Deafheaven, Sun Kil Moon & The Album Leaf, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Autechre, Low, Scout Niblet, Lilacs & Champagne, Holy Sons, The Appleseed Cast, Ensemble Pearl (members of Sunn O))) and Boris). Lots of exciting stuff coming out.

Unconfirmed but what I hope for -
Boards of Canada (who doesn't), Pygmy Lush, Bill Callahan, Joanna Newsom, The National, Built to Spill, Benoît Pioulard, Palms.

    Viva 2013!

Haven't made up my mind and did not even went deeply looking for what's about to come out, but here a few of my anticipated records in 2013:

new Black Keys (although I didn't really like their latest output)
new Mark Lanegan (and more touring please)
    new Dillinger Escape Plan
new How to Destroy Angels (obviously even though I'm not too fond of an omen, but am still excited)
new Queens of the Stone Age
    new Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
new Beck (he's even about to realease two records I've heard)
    new the Prodigy
    new Depeche Mode
    new Goldfrapp
new Death from Above 1979 (maybe, maybe)
    Sound City (OST)
    Johnny Marr - the messenger
    Kvelertak - meir
    Tomahawk - oddfellows
Stereophonics - graffiti on the train
Noel Gallagher and Amorphous Androgynous collab
    new Beady Eye
Esben and the Witch - wash the sins not only the face
Dita van Teese is also about to release an album I've heard. Kinda curious how that will turn out

And of course all that great shit you guys on ets will introduce me to over the course of 2013!

A$AP Rocky's LongLiveA$AP - chill and relaxed, some tight beats, I like it.
Chris Owens' Lysandre - he's no longer with Girls, but I can see that (provided he gets off the dope) this guy has a long and interesting career ahead of him. New album is good, just the right length for its concept and I love the recurring melody played with all different types of instruments.
Jim James Regions of Light and Sound of God - another solo debut from an already established artist, and this one may be better than his recent output with My Morning Jacket. Subtly different, very mellow and groovy. I like it.

I'm looking forward to new Local Natives this month, and I'm vaguely interested in the How To Destroy Angels LP, but I can't think of anything else till April, when the Knife FINALLY come out with their new album, Shaking the Habitual. I'd really like some new stuff from Joanna Newsom, the National, Shabazz Palaces and Brand New... but that remains to be seen. It's certainly a good time to release new music for all of them, and there have been rumblings.

    Favourite stuff so far:
    Yo La Tengo - Fade
Esben and the Witch - Wash the Sins... (the opener and closer are brilliant, rest of the album is still growing on me)
Hilly Eye - Reasons to Live (psychedelic, riot-grrl influenced awesomeness. Major Sleater-Kinney vibes abound)

This may be my favorite song of the year so far, I highly recommend checking this record out. It reminds me of Nobunny mixed with the Strokes.

This guy Sinitus Tempo is also incredibly good, for anyone of Flying Lotus and smooth jazz should check this out. It's a great record.

Favorite records this year have been...

My Bloody Valetine - mbv (it's so great)
Toro y Moi - Anything In Return
    Yo La Tengo - Fade
    Sinitus Tempo - Caged Bird
    FIDLAR - FIDLAR
    Doldrums - Lesser Evil
    Unknown Mortal Orchestra - //
Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic
    Lil B - Pink Flame
José James - No Beginning, No End
    Ducktails - The Flower Lane
    Christopher Owens - Lysandre

    Honorable mentions:
    A$AP Rocky - Long. Live. A$AP
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push The Sky Away
    Indians - Somewhere Else
    Iceage - You're Nothing
    Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety

The only album I've really HATED this year was Tegan & Sara's "Heartthrob". That record was utter garbage.

    Atoms for Peace
    Earl Sweatshirt
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    Iron & Wine
    Cloud Nothings
    Danny Brown
    David Bowie.....I'm sure there's more

Cautiously optimistic about How to Destroy Angels however.

New British Sea Power album in the making! The first single is a slightly glossed-up version of one of the EP tracks, and one of by absolute BSP favourites.

There's been too many good releases this year for me to rank them at this point, it's almost obscene, but so far, Autechre wins for me.
