Nickelback, Celine & Biebs aside, there are far more better offerings from The Great White North. This thread is dedicated to those Canadian gems - most of which are buried and long forgotten. Come with me on this trip & suggest places to stop along the way...

In my opinion, one of our best songwriters today is Matthew Good. I still think MGB's album 'Beautiful Midnight' is one of the best rock albums around, though I'm way more partial to his solo work after the band dissolved. Some random songs (I could literally post a shitload...there are that many great songs).

Back in the 80s, I was very into Larry Gowan; I loved his voice so much

I have a thing for classically trained pianists it seems...

And also: epic mullet is epic.

Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar was my neighbor for about 7 years when I grew up...his neighbor on the other side was Trevor Linden. Yay Canada.

That would be crazy! I'd totally hit him up for some guitar lessons.

We hung out a number of times, he did a lot of car restoration in his backyard. If I recall correctly, they had a cd (greatest hits i think?) that has a car on the cover that I watched him pretty much restore from the frame up. For extra nerd points, we all lived across the street from a park called Terri Clark Park (the country singer) since she lived near there as well. Yup.

edit: I was right, the greatest hits album.

That kicks ass! Your solid gold Maple Sugar jug award is in the mail! I met Gordie once when he was in town with Grady. We were in the club standing by the green room door & my buddy opens the door, pushed me in & closed the door. They were standing right there! I just bought their disc from the merch table & asked 'Hey guys, are you signing stuff after the sho-?' Gordie swiftly ushered me out. It was fucking hilarious. I had a FEW beverages that night & remember wearing his Stetson at one point during the show.

Check out Slowcoaster, these Cape Breton guys are brilliant and mix funk, punk and jam rock. Some really great party anthems, well written ballads and all around fun songs.

They're always touring so be sure to look them up, live shows consist of massive improvisation and jamming, turning 3 minute songs into 8 and 9 minute epics. Love them!

The Hip have always been one of those bands that I can't stand other than a few specific tracks...but those tracks I love... I. Fucking. Love. (Nautical Disaster, Bobcaygeon, Long Time Runnin' are a few of them).

October brought back a lot of memories regarding Matt Good... especially 'Weapon'. Loved Avalanche. One of my favourites from that album...

A Canadian music topic without mentioning Metric, The Birthday Massacre, Crystal Castles, Stars, Tegan and Sara, Arcade Fire, Grimes, Front Line Assembly, Delerium, is wrong.

What's up old thread? My friend made this album and it’s only five bucks on ITunes. Great songs.
