Driving, Driving in My Car - The Music To Drive To Thread

Do we have a thread on music/driving?

Going on a road trip tomorrow (back to Indiana!), and so I'm thinking about the music I'm going to bring.
Please discuss here your favorite music...for the road.

For highways I like QOTSA a lot - especially ...Like Clockwork.

Also some trip-hop (Massive Attack, Tricky, Bjork - though my wife hates Bjork lol)

anything with sirens in it of course is out of the question.

When the journey has already gone on several hours - out come the classics: Nirvana, Tool, Amplifier, The Beatles, The Clancy Brothers.

Also, got to negotiate with the kid and "her music" - a balancing act between keeping the peace and keeping your cool.

    Anyway, recommendations welcome!

I don't drive (long story), but I usually commandeer the stereo if friends or relatives are cool with it. As for what I play, it really depends on how long the trip is and where we're going. For short trips around the city, usually something with a good beat, but nothing too fast. The exception to that is if there's something new that I want to play for them that doesn't fit into that category. For long car trips, I usually like to start with something fast and loud to get everyone excited, then slow it down during the middle of the trip, before going back to fast and loud once we get close to our destination.

a classic. I was going to post it. Reminds me, I have to dig out my Rubber Soul CD, because that is the best Beatles album for the car.
