As for the covers album that Glenn has been talking about for ages... not sure what has become of that.

So far the only tracks we've heard from it are "Devil's Angels" and "Some Velvet Morning" - you should be able to find them on YouTube.

Now if only the Samhain albums could get a vinyl repressing! I understand why there hasn't been repressings of Danzig's solo albums since those are owned by American and there's tons of red tape there, but who owns the rights to Samhain's albums, recordings? Why wouldn't he repress them at least in limited quantities...I mean, even if you made it limited to 1,000 it would probably sell out in a day...

Interview with London May about upcoming Samhain shows -

    Of note:

KW: Is there a chance or has there been any talk of new Samhain material being written for a record?
LM: Nothing new yet, but Glenn has talked about releasing an Initium outtake called “The Urge,” which is part one of a trilogy of songs including “The Shift” and “The Howl”. He had mentioned the song way back in the old days, but I wasn’t sure it really existed. Well, it does and I’m excited to finally hear it.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: London May talks about Samhain

    Photo: Dvl Man

LOS ANGELES, August 29, 2014 — Samhain is the punk band that Glenn Danzig formed in between the Misfits and his current band, Danzig. Originally a side project with Eerie Von, Samhain become the focus of Glenn Danzig after the Misfits broke up. Over the years, Samhain went through various lineup changes with Danzig and Von the only real constant members since the band’s formation. Eventually, Danzig would drop the Samhain moniker and go with his last name, Danzig.
The band reunited in 1999 and has done various tours since then, most notably the Danzig Legacy shows. Samhain will embark on a U.S. tour this fall with Danzig, London May, Steve Zing, and Peter Adams on guitar. May, who was Samhain’s drummer from 1985 to 1987 and played on the November-Coming-Fire album, took some time to speak with Wells On Music regarding his time in Samhain and also the upcoming Samhain tour on which he will be alternating with Steve Zing on drums and bass.
Scroll below the video to read the interview.

KW: How did you first come to join Samhain?

LM: Did you ever see that movie “Rock Star” with Mark Wahlberg? It was just like that. I was a 17-year-old fan boy who got a chance to join his favorite band. I had just graduated high school and blown off college to play music. Next thing I knew I was on a train to New York with a little suitcase and a big dream. I’m glad it worked out.

KW: What was your first impression of Danzig after first meeting him?
LM: I first met Glenn with the Misfits in 1982. I had him sign some stuff for me and he was cool. Later on I found him to be 75% funny and 25% terrifying.
KW: What were the writing and recording sessions like with Samhain?
LM: It was very brief during the November-Coming-Fire era. Glenn wrote every part to every song and would show us all an arrangement in the morning and we would record it that afternoon. It was nerve wracking since we were on a tight budget and Glenn was pretty demanding. I was also very green as a drummer, so I had to hustle to keep up the best I could. Thankfully, we spent more time working on the Samhain IV sessions. Glenn was playing guitar at the time so we would jam a bit more before we recorded. Still I was always a bit slow to catch on with the precise drum parts he wrote, so occasionally he used a drum machine to save time/money in the studio. He always recorded his vocals last. So, in his head all the music/arrangements made perfect sense, but to me the material was frequently confusing until I finally heard him sing over it.
KW: Why did you and Samhain eventually part ways?
LM: Besides some ever present personal friction between me and Glenn, Rick Rubin simply wanted a different drummer. Chuck Biscuits was one of Glenn’s faves so they tracked him down. It was actually quite a compliment. Like if your girlfriend breaks up with you to be with George Clooney.
KW: Obviously, any bad blood has been forgotten since you are back with the band, but at the time was there any bad blood between you and Danzig?

READ ALSO: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ex-Misfits guitar player Doyle

LM: Yes, even though I was kinda stoked that Chuck was my replacement (he was always a huge inspiration), I wasn’t too happy with the whole situation. There was some legal stuff with Glenn that had to be sorted and that caused a bad rift with everyone for years. But even though I was frozen out I still loved the band and secretly went to see them every chance I had.
KW: Why do you think Samhain gets the red-headed step child treatment from the general public. By that I mean that Samhain is the least known Danzig band, but is just as good as any other one. It doesn’t seem like Samhain gets the credit it deserves. A lot of people I think should know about it for some reason just don’t and I always find that odd.
LM: Firstly, I feel Samhain was never destined to be a mainstream band. Too gloomy, too tribal, too raw. That’s why there was such huge changes when the band finally morphed into Danzig. Considering that Samhain was never on a major label, never had a hit song or video, never had a mass market T shirt AND our records have been out of print for almost 15 years, I’m happy that we still get the minor acclaim that we do! The songs are timeless and we have earned our cult status and our fan’s respect, but there’s really not a lot there to keep the casual music consumer interested in for long. We were never blinded by the bright light of commercialism but instead we lurked in the darkness. Maybe that’s why some discerning folks are still so passionate about us. Thank you to our loyal and die-hard fans!
KW: How did the ball get rolling for you to be involved in the Danzig Legacy shows?
LM: Glenn and I have been on good terms for the past few years and he asked me if I was up for it. I thought a Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig show was an amazing idea and I said hell yes!

KW: Danzig has a pretty serious-type of “Don’t mess with me” reputation. Do any of you guys ever try to mess with him on tour? Or does he ever try to pull any practical jokes on you guys?
LM: Back in the day, I was hell bent on driving Glenn nuts. I was such a teenage trouble maker and his intense temperament was impossible to resist. I was always up to some stupid s**t and then I would deny it. I’m lucky I never got smacked. I know better now! Glenn likes to joke around a lot and tease, so you gotta have thick skin if you wanna hang. His most major prank back at me (and well deserved after years of me dishing it out) was to have a huge bucket of fake blood poured on me “Carrie” style while I was playing the final song of the 1999 tour. If those gallons of red sticky sugar water weren’t a surprise enough, the roadies followed it up with a bag of feathers. It was fucking gross and my drums and I were drenched in it, but to my credit I finished the song!

Glenn Danzig talks 2014 Housecore Horror Fest, and new music plans for 2015

Rocker Glenn Danzig was friendly and in good spirits while discussing his upcoming performance at this year’s Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, TX: “Well Phil (Anselmo, Pantera vocalist and festival co-founder) had asked me to come for a while, and we were available to do it this year and it's pretty cool. I like what Phil's doing.”

The event, (which runs October 23-26, 2014 at Emo’s and Midways) celebrates the best in heavy metal and horror movies. He’s well-versed in both genres, and his pioneering use of horror imagery in music makes the argument that an event like Housecore might not exist without his influence.

That dark thread begins with 70’s punk band The Misfits, his 80’s deathrock group Samhain and continues with his solo career that’s covered 9 studio albums and counting: “I’ve always liked horror movies: whether its monster movies or dark murder movies. So as I developed and read more and experienced more…it's just gone on from there exponentially…the more you know about it the more you have to write about it.”

He’ll perform at Emo’s on Sunday, with a diverse set that will thrill diehard fans: “They asked if we could do a Samhain set and a Danzig set…so I'm glad it worked out.”

Regarding Samhain, he’s been excited by the reception at recent shows like Chicago’s Riot Fest. "The shows have been pretty wild; people knew every word of every Samhain song and I was shocked…it's been very cool.”

On the horror movie front, he’s still working on his long-in-development directorial debut “Ge Rouge” (based on the comic of the same name from his Verotik line). “We’re still doing it. It's just in Hollywood you go from producer to producer…but it looks like it's actually really going to happen this time…and we asked the Soska sisters to direct a Verotika pic and they reacted very favorably to it.”

He’s also a big fan of "The Walking Dead" and has written a song to be used on a future episode and soundtrack. He even hinted he may appear on wrap-up show “The Talking Dead.”

But his main focus remains music, and he’s keeping busy. A new studio album is set for a fall 2015 release, and his long awaited covers album is due in March. Plus he’s working on an EP of Elvis covers.

Given all the musical genres he’s covered, is there any other sonic terrain he’s interested in exploring? “No, probably “Danzig Sings Elvis” will be about it!” he laughs. “I'm pretty lucky in that a long time ago I started my own label. So I can just put out stuff when I want as long as I have a good distributor and no one can kick me off my own label!” he says chuckling. “So I make sure that it sounds like what people expect Danzig to sound like and hopefully they'll like the product when it comes out. That's really all that I do.”

Any final words on Housecore? "I'm assuming that I'm talking to most of the people that are going to be in the area…if it's what you're into, you should definitely come out and support what Phil's doing cause it really cool and it'd be great if it keeps happening every year and gets bigger and bigger.”

You can get more scheduling and ticket info on the Housecore Horror Fest by visiting their official website. And you can read the entire Q-and-A of my Danzig interview by clicking here.

    More stuff here:

    http://smellslikeinfinitesadness.com...d-a-busy-2015/

SLIS: Speaking of: Do you have any plans on remastering or reissuing the Samhain albums in the near future?

GD: I wouldn’t remaster them, but we’ll see if we re-release them not. Some bootleg company in Europe released them awhile ago and we’re trying to shut them down. So hopefully we’ll reissue some stuff in the future.

SLIS: You’ve been working on the Danzig Sings Elvis EP. Any idea of when that will be released?

GD: Yeah I’m working on that right now. We’re halfway done with it. It’s just gonna be an EP like 7 or 8 songs. And once all this stuff is done…I’m probably gonna go back in the studio and start working on a new Danzig record too. So there’s a lot of stuff in the pipeline now that’s ready to get released.

SLIS: You’ve also been working on a covers album of various artists; last year you released a Nancy Sinatra cover with Cherie Currie (Runaways). Will that still see the light of day in a different release?

GD: The cover record is hopefully gonna come around March 2015, and then it’ll be followed later by the new Danzig record next fall. And then the Danzig Elvis EP, I’m not sure when that’s coming out since I’m not done with it yet…but we’ll see.

SLIS: So this month Danzig 4p turned 20. That’s always been my favorite album of yours, and an underrated one at that. Will you be doing any special anniversary reissues, or adding more songs from that album to your set list this year?

GD: Well we’re talking to (producer) Rick (Rubin) and his label about doing some special stuff. We’ll see. Cause trying to get Rick to pay attention to his label is just really hard these days (laughing). But there’s a guy over there who’s really cool so we’ve talked to him so we’ll see how it all progresses.

SLIS: When you look back on that album, what are your thoughts?

GD: Well I still like it. Of course I like heavy guitar and Rick likes a cleaner guitar. So if it I was to remake it nowadays I’d probably have some heavier guitar on it (laughing). But that’d be it. I wouldn’t change much else.

SLIS: You gave us a taste of some of your older lyrics with The Hidden Lyrics of Danzig, which came out in 2010. Any chance of releasing the stuff you put out from 77 to 85?

GD: Yeah. Bis (Simon Bisley) and I started talking about doing another lyric book but this time it could be whatever lyrics we wanted. It didn’t have to be songs that no one ever had seen the lyrics to. But depending on Bis because he’s always behind schedule…if it does come out I wouldn’t see it coming out for a year or two from now (laughing). So if I can get him to do the stuff it’d be great. Sometimes it just takes forever to get the stuff out of him (laughing). BUT at the end of the day he is one of the best artists around so it’s like a trade-off. Cause he really puts his heart and soul into the stuff he does for me and I can’t ask for more than that.

I want his covers album to come out.

I'd love a re-release and anniversary edition of 4p. It's my favorite Danzig album. I'd love a remastered album, live tracks, bonus/unreleased/outtakes/demos (I got the Lost Tracks of Danzig so it wouldn't be worthwhile to me honestly) and a DVD/Blu-ray featuring a live show (proshot Rock AM Ring 1995 I think?) and/or his music videos for the album (II Demonio Nera).

Not just 4p, all 4 of the American label albums need to get re-pressed on vinyl! I can't believe this hasn't been done. I have a feeling many Danzig fans are also vinyl collectors so to not have re-released them yet when vinyl has been on such a resurgence is just leaving a huge amount of money on the table.

Same goes for all the Samhain albums. The Misfits catalog has been reissued a million times and I bet they still make big chunks of cash from that every time they do it.

And of course, some sort of video/blu-ray release of either semi-current or classic concerts would be appreciated as well.

    Just watched it all.

    Pros:

    - Loved the song choices.

    - It was great seeing Glenn put more effort into the vocals, like in SkinCarver and Her Black Wings. Typical live versions sound sloppy lyrically, but these all sound amazing. Black Hell at the end was ridiculously good.

    Cons:

    - Far, far too short.

    - The chronology should have been Misfits / Samhain / Danzig, but they kind of went back and forth.

Conclusion: physical version needs to be released with everything recorded and no cuts.
