    The "Pop" Thread

Talk about all the top 40/pop/whatever stuff here. Hopefully without reprisal from dickweeds.

I've seen Britney Spears and Katy Perry in the last month. Britney was DIABOLICAL but Katy Perry was actually very, very good. Also, the last minute of her new video made me tear up.

I didn't expect to get into Shakira, but I had a feeling that I'd have to check out her older work out first. It took me several listens to get into, but some songs have instantly clicked with me.

I actually like some Madonna. I think I'm more of a casual fan though, but the songs that have clicked with me, really do click. I'm also a bit surprised to see a lack of an actual Madonna thread this time around.

And while admittedly being far from being the biggest fan of music, and getting into music in the late 1990s, Ray of Light was the first song from her that I actually got into.

I liked Shakira when she solely Spanish albums but I did have Laundry Service back in the day.

I was obsessed with Marina and the Diamonds during the Family Jewels era. I saw her three years ago. She was hot.

I've never been a big Gaga fan, but I have to admit, I'm enjoying the shit out of her new song with R. Kelly

As a Gaga fan, this era is a flop IMO. There seems to be really shitty single choices because, judging by the iTunes Showcase, Swine sounds AMAZING.

I like that song too. He should be topping the charts right now in the U.S. What the hell? Why isn't he popular in the U.S.? The dude is fun.

    Currently discovering

What a fantastic sound: dark and dreamy and catchy, Rihanna's vocals are amazing. So glad I am finally getting into Rihanna after avoiding her music for the longest time (though I always had a soft spot for Umbrella).

Everything She Wants by Wham! really grew on me a lot more than I expected it to.

The same also went for Tarzan Boy, by Baltimora, which I've first heard from Gay Fuel memes at YTMND.com. I also liked how it briefly made its way onto Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time.

I can fucks with this thread.

So that Bangerz show in KC finally got a rescheduled date in August and I couldn't be happier. Only downside is that I'm pretty sure Sky Ferreira won't be opening anymore. But, fuck it, that show will still be amazing. That lineup was the most relevant "POP" lineup of the year, in my opinion. In fact, it's happening like a week after I'm seeing JT. So that's going to probably be the best/most pop infused week of 2014 for me. Only way it could have been better is if Beyonce/Jay Z had been booked in Kansas City. But alas.

    Current jams:

Getting into Iggy Azalea, she's kind of stolen Kesha's thunder

    (Culturally-appropriating video):

Katy Perry is getting weirder and weirder:

More Rihanna: her vocal performance has incredible power

i really love that silly "rather be" song by some band called clean bandit. it's so stupid and so fun, makes me grin and bop around like a moron in my car.

it reminds me a lot of early 90's house pop stuff like cece peniston and crystal waters. it doesn't sound like something that would be a huge hit in the states nowadays, but i'm glad that it's gaining momentum on american airwaves.

Yeah I've always found T Swift pretty grating, but fuck it, this song is great.

Also, ummm... the new Charli XCX track is probably my new favorite pop track of 2014.

True Romance is one of the albums I've most enjoyed lately. Looking forward to the sequel.

That new Taylor Swift song is rather nice. I don't understand the accusations of racism in the video. It's one of these let's-all-get-together things, and they tried every possible thing to avoid the racism charges. I mean, she's getting lifted by both a black and a white guy...

Agreed. There's no way this new video is more offensive and as full of appropriation than every damn thing Iggy Azaelia does.
