It'll likely be widely available afterwards, but yeah RSD will probably be some kind of limited color/pic disc gimmick incentive thing just like the Greatest/Acoustic Hits thing last year. I did see standard editions of those after the fact, and Amazon still has both of them right now for ~$25 even. Definitely don't be suckered into paying the RSD scalpers more.

    It's official.

    http://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/10082

Mixed Up: Limited Edition Double LP Picture Disc set of The Cure’s 1990 remix album Mixed Up. Featuring nine remixes of their hits including "Lullaby", "Close to Me", "Pictures of You", "Love Song", "Why Can’t I Be You?" Newly remastered in 2018 by Robert Smith. On vinyl for the very first time exclusively for Record Store Day 2018. Worldwide run of 7750.

Torn Down - Mixed Up Extra: Sixteen new remixes by Robert Smith of classic Cure tracks including "Three Imaginary Boys", "Just One Kiss" and "Never Enough". On vinyl for the very first time exclusively for Record Store Day 2018. Worldwide run of 7750.

Both are pic discs ugh :/ that's generally horrible for sound quality.

Yeah, I'm going to hold on a while for this. Limited availability, bad sound quality is likely, I'm not into picture discs, and I'm sure this will be repressed or released digitally later. Still, it's very encouraging to see this come out, I think that an expanded Mixed Up was something Robert mentioned releasing a long, long time ago, like 2008 or so.

Perfect. They aren't going to waste a remaster on one limited run, so the picture disc is probably the only "rare" bit and we can wait for a proper pressing afterwards

Torn Down looks like it will get a standard release on June 8, according to Chain of Flowers.

Robert Smith's meltdown festival in london sounds great... nin, manics, my bloody Valentine, deftones, and er... the libertines. No cure though?

I think someone wrote in the London show thread that the final date has still yet to be revealed on what's going on that day. Assuming The Cure will announce a gig then. Would be neat to have some sort of collab with some of the other artists (Trent?), but that might be asking for too much.

The Cure will not be performing. The Meltdown festival is curated by an artist, but they do not perform it. they may hop on stage for some acts though.

....so how about Robert on lead guitar for a live performance of And All That Could Have Been during NIN's set?

    that would be awesome.

Considering Mixed Up has gotten the worst reviews of any Cure record (yes worse than WMS and the Ross Robinson produced ST album) its odd RS is revisiting it and putting out a sequel of sorts...rather he focus on that Orange blu ray, and the Reflections blu ray, and the Wish deluxe and the 4:13 Scream album...but whatever

I personally love Mixed Up, but that may also have to do with the fact that it's an album I remember my parents getting when it first came out and I was a kid. Holds a special place.

But, maybe he'll get to Wish next, considering Mixed up was released after Disintegration and before Wish. Here's hoping. Favorite era of the band by far.

The "Tree Mix" of A Forest on Mixed Up is insanely great. To the point where that alone might be worth the price of getting the remaster.

If you look at the history of Meltdown Festival, sometimes artists who are curating it perform, sometimes They don't.

The big 40th anniversary show at Hyde Park is being billed as the Cure's only European show of 2018, so if they do play Meltdown it will probably be a very last minute/surprise type thing.

This morning's interview with Robert Smith on BBC Radio 6, speaking mainly about Meltdown:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p063txrk

A key point to mention is that being asked to do this has helped him get back into the spirit of working on music, writing songs and booking studio time for The Cure.

    Edit:

Also - it sounds like The Cure WILL be playing at Meltdown, but it won't be a regular gig. A good one for the fans then. Hyde Park will probably be 'The Hits' / anniversary celebration, while Meltdown will be an odd mixture... he will play on his own and maybe with some special guests. One for the hardcore fans then, I'd imagine.

    More edit:

    On sale 'soon':

Also of note, near the very end Robert said they've already signed up for a number of shows in 2019, and are going to be touring 'around the world' for various festivals and headlining shows...including perhaps something to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Disintegration. If they play the album in its entirety, it's easily a must-see show.

Just throwing this out as a recommendation: I've started reading Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books because of The Drowning Man. Fantasy's always been a love of mine, and I am so very, very glad I've been introduced to these. I'm near the end of vol. 1, Titus Groan and can't put it down and if vol. 2, Gormenghast, doesn't get here in the next two days I might have to resort to sheer senseless violence against myself and others out of frustration.

    ---

Also vinyl versions of the 1st and 3rd discs, as well as just a single CD version. I'm going to assume that this is finally continuing off the remaster campaign from Disintegration a million years ago and that the Wish remaster might actually be a real thing someday, so this makes me insanely happy.

I'll definitely be keen to get a hold of CD2 - a few there appearing on CD for the first time, I believe.

I'd be really interested to hear from Robert about the motivation on the CD3 remixes. Are they favourite songs, or tracks he felt could be improved upon I wonder?

But yes, seems he's had a nice holiday and is ready to get back to work, and if that includes more reissues than great.

Robert has a LOT to say today! Official site updated with response to the ridiculous negative spin that the online music sites put on his XFM interview and lots more. Thank you, Robert!

"I HAVE LITTLE DESIRE TO BE DRAWN
AND LITTLE CONVICTION IT REALLY MATTERS THAT MUCH...
BUT ON THE BACK OF THE WEARY AND EVER MORE NEGATIVE INTERPRETATIONS OF MY SHORT POST SATURDAY RAH SHOW CHAT WITH XFM
I WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN A VERY SIMPLE CHAIN OF EVENTS AS CLEARLY AND SUCCINCTLY AS I CAN, GIVEN A NUMBER OF GENUINE CONSTRAINTS…

AS CLEARLY AND SUCCINCTLY AS I CAN": I THINK '4:13 DREAM' IS AN EXCELLENT CURE ALBUM, AND ALL THE B-SIDES ARE FAB… BUT THE CULMINATION OF THE PROJECT WASNT QUITE WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, AS 16 OF THE ORIGINAL 33 SONGS WERE 'LEFT ON THE SHELF'...

AND MY PLAN THIS SUNNY SPRING MONDAY AT THE END OF MARCH IS TO GET TO THE POINT IN THE NEXT MONTH OR THREE WHERE WE CAN RELEASE:

1)A LTD EDITION '4:26 DREAM' DOUBLE CD ALBUM OF 26 SONGS (ALL REMIXED) - IE. 'THE ORIGINAL 4:13 DREAM SESSIONS CONCEPT ALBUM' (INCLUDING THE 'INSTRUMENTALS WITH WORDS') - OF WHICH 10 TRACKS OR MORE WILL BE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED…

    2) A LTD EDITION '4:14 SCREAM' SINGLE CD ALBUM OF 14 PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED SONGS - ALBEIT SOME OF THEM MAY ALSO BE ON '4:26 DREAM'… BUT THESE '4:14 SCREAM' VERSIONS WILL ALL HAVE WORDS AND VOCALS…

AND I WILL BE OVERCOME WITH AN IRRESISTIBLE URGE** TO FINISH SOME (ALL?!!) OF THE OTHER OUTSTANDING CURE PROJECTS
LIKE 'LIVE IN PARIS 2008' AND 'REFLECTIONS 2011' AND 'SUMMERCURE 2012' AND 'LATAM 2013' (AND 'RAH TCT 2014'?!!)

…AND CREATE SOME NEW NEW MUSIC WITH THIS CURRENT CURE LINEUP...

    PS
"AS CLEARLY AND SUCCINCTLY AS I CAN":
I STILL PREFER PHYSICAL RELEASES TO VIRTUAL… gulp!
    PPS
*"Having said all that, I have no idea… I really don't. I'm really bad at planning long-term stuff." - ME, AT THE WEEKEND…"

Pre ordered the 3CD. I have several of the cd2 mixes already, either on vinyl or someone’s rip from their vinyl, so I can pass on the LP of this. Mind you if I love torn down might end up picking up that.

If/when wish de materialises I’ll be all over that in all formats of course

So glad the reissues are continuing. Self titled reissue could be really interesting
