I personally love Mixed Up, but that may also have to do with the fact that it's an album I remember my parents getting when it first came out and I was a kid. Holds a special place.

But, maybe he'll get to Wish next, considering Mixed up was released after Disintegration and before Wish. Here's hoping. Favorite era of the band by far.

The "Tree Mix" of A Forest on Mixed Up is insanely great. To the point where that alone might be worth the price of getting the remaster.

If you look at the history of Meltdown Festival, sometimes artists who are curating it perform, sometimes They don't.

The big 40th anniversary show at Hyde Park is being billed as the Cure's only European show of 2018, so if they do play Meltdown it will probably be a very last minute/surprise type thing.

This morning's interview with Robert Smith on BBC Radio 6, speaking mainly about Meltdown:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p063txrk

A key point to mention is that being asked to do this has helped him get back into the spirit of working on music, writing songs and booking studio time for The Cure.

    Edit:

Also - it sounds like The Cure WILL be playing at Meltdown, but it won't be a regular gig. A good one for the fans then. Hyde Park will probably be 'The Hits' / anniversary celebration, while Meltdown will be an odd mixture... he will play on his own and maybe with some special guests. One for the hardcore fans then, I'd imagine.

    More edit:

    On sale 'soon':

Also of note, near the very end Robert said they've already signed up for a number of shows in 2019, and are going to be touring 'around the world' for various festivals and headlining shows...including perhaps something to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Disintegration. If they play the album in its entirety, it's easily a must-see show.

Just throwing this out as a recommendation: I've started reading Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books because of The Drowning Man. Fantasy's always been a love of mine, and I am so very, very glad I've been introduced to these. I'm near the end of vol. 1, Titus Groan and can't put it down and if vol. 2, Gormenghast, doesn't get here in the next two days I might have to resort to sheer senseless violence against myself and others out of frustration.

Also vinyl versions of the 1st and 3rd discs, as well as just a single CD version. I'm going to assume that this is finally continuing off the remaster campaign from Disintegration a million years ago and that the Wish remaster might actually be a real thing someday, so this makes me insanely happy.

I'll definitely be keen to get a hold of CD2 - a few there appearing on CD for the first time, I believe.

I'd be really interested to hear from Robert about the motivation on the CD3 remixes. Are they favourite songs, or tracks he felt could be improved upon I wonder?

But yes, seems he's had a nice holiday and is ready to get back to work, and if that includes more reissues than great.

Robert has a LOT to say today! Official site updated with response to the ridiculous negative spin that the online music sites put on his XFM interview and lots more. Thank you, Robert!

"I HAVE LITTLE DESIRE TO BE DRAWN
AND LITTLE CONVICTION IT REALLY MATTERS THAT MUCH...
BUT ON THE BACK OF THE WEARY AND EVER MORE NEGATIVE INTERPRETATIONS OF MY SHORT POST SATURDAY RAH SHOW CHAT WITH XFM
I WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN A VERY SIMPLE CHAIN OF EVENTS AS CLEARLY AND SUCCINCTLY AS I CAN, GIVEN A NUMBER OF GENUINE CONSTRAINTS…

AS CLEARLY AND SUCCINCTLY AS I CAN": I THINK '4:13 DREAM' IS AN EXCELLENT CURE ALBUM, AND ALL THE B-SIDES ARE FAB… BUT THE CULMINATION OF THE PROJECT WASNT QUITE WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, AS 16 OF THE ORIGINAL 33 SONGS WERE 'LEFT ON THE SHELF'...

AND MY PLAN THIS SUNNY SPRING MONDAY AT THE END OF MARCH IS TO GET TO THE POINT IN THE NEXT MONTH OR THREE WHERE WE CAN RELEASE:

1)A LTD EDITION '4:26 DREAM' DOUBLE CD ALBUM OF 26 SONGS (ALL REMIXED) - IE. 'THE ORIGINAL 4:13 DREAM SESSIONS CONCEPT ALBUM' (INCLUDING THE 'INSTRUMENTALS WITH WORDS') - OF WHICH 10 TRACKS OR MORE WILL BE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED…

    2) A LTD EDITION '4:14 SCREAM' SINGLE CD ALBUM OF 14 PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED SONGS - ALBEIT SOME OF THEM MAY ALSO BE ON '4:26 DREAM'… BUT THESE '4:14 SCREAM' VERSIONS WILL ALL HAVE WORDS AND VOCALS…

AND I WILL BE OVERCOME WITH AN IRRESISTIBLE URGE** TO FINISH SOME (ALL?!!) OF THE OTHER OUTSTANDING CURE PROJECTS
LIKE 'LIVE IN PARIS 2008' AND 'REFLECTIONS 2011' AND 'SUMMERCURE 2012' AND 'LATAM 2013' (AND 'RAH TCT 2014'?!!)

…AND CREATE SOME NEW NEW MUSIC WITH THIS CURRENT CURE LINEUP...

    PS
"AS CLEARLY AND SUCCINCTLY AS I CAN":
I STILL PREFER PHYSICAL RELEASES TO VIRTUAL… gulp!
    PPS
*"Having said all that, I have no idea… I really don't. I'm really bad at planning long-term stuff." - ME, AT THE WEEKEND…"
A guy can still dream right?

Pre ordered the 3CD. I have several of the cd2 mixes already, either on vinyl or someone’s rip from their vinyl, so I can pass on the LP of this. Mind you if I love torn down might end up picking up that.

If/when wish de materialises I’ll be all over that in all formats of course

So glad the reissues are continuing. Self titled reissue could be really interesting

New Want remix is available individually. I'm going to wait for the full set before buying, but the brief preview is encouraging.

    https://www.7digital.com/artist/the-...x-2018-7704486

Also - damn, I forgot about this track. Must give Wild Mood Swings a run through - it's been a long time.

Edit: checking Amazon they show a digital release for the full Mixed Up reissue as 15 June. Not sure if that was confirmed elsewhere.

I heard the want mix on radio 6. It was... a little like smith threw everything at it, like he had no restraint. I wonder if that’ll be reflected in all of torn down. He can do ace remixes - eg cranes jewel - but even those are a little bit too much imho. Just one overdub too many.

There’s exactly 2 tracks I like on WMS I think, want is one, feel free to guess the other

^Numb? I like Treasure, Trap and Jupiter Crash quite a bit too.

I picked up both Mixed Up and Torn Down this morning. Annoyingly enough there's no download code. I was planning on getting the CD in June anyway, but it would've been nice to get these on my iPod now.

I think the new mixes would've benefited from other artists taking part. I agree completely with the lack of restraint. The mix for Drowning Man is beautiful, but the vocals come in a beat too soon and it doesn't sound right at all.

Night Like This and Deep Green Sea are my favorites so far but I've still got it spinning.

*edit - Loudest Sound mix is fucking ace. Really beautiful version. The mix for Strange Day is giving me a shoegaze vibe and it just makes me wish that Kevin Shields would remix a Cure song.

*edit 2- Lost has a nice drum and bass feel to it, and It's Over is perhaps better than the original. Dark, industrial tinged, angry. Great way to end it. I still think it would've been better to get input elsewhere for these mixes, but I'm glad that Robert's inspired to be making new stuff again.

Sounds like I’m going to enjoy the later-period song remixes at least- thanks!

I should probably re-listen to WMS, I can’t recall the tune to numb etc off the top of my head. My 2nd choice was “this is a lie”.

I always forget about This Is a Lie... really great song though.

I stilll have to give the proper Mixed Up (remastered) a play through. And a second listen to Torn Down is definitely in order. Another reason why I wanted the download code is to be able to conveniently listen with headphones (my turntable setup sadly does not include headphones ugh).

As a whole, I think WMS is awful. But it has some really good songs in there. This Is A Lie being one of them.

two listens of torn down completed (one while cleaning up a rip of the vinyl).

in short, i like it FAR more than i expected it to!

i'm the opposite so far, i prefer the earlier remixes to the latter-day ones. agree though that both 'drowning man' and 'want' have vocals that feel like they're out of sync. it feels more like a mistake than an actual artistic choice, but both have great musical tracks. otherwise, nothing i really hate on here, but definitely like some mixes better than others.

    maybe get in touch?

otherwise, as for other robert remixes, i've always LOVED that cranes mix (overdubs and all), and especially love his and also the trees mix:

just finished listening to Torn Down. overall is pretty good. I'd give it a grade of B. really dislike the redo of Want & wasn't super keen on Edge of the Deep Green Sea. rest is at least ok if not better.

Is it 'out there?' I'm going to pick up the box when it comes out.

I'm so glad the reissue campaign's going to move forward. It's a nice feeling, knowing some day a Bloodflowers LP won't cost an entire township's worth of internal organs on the black market and I'll be able to pick one up.

there are rips of the record store day vinyl "out there". i'm going to buy the 3 cd set but didn't want to wait until June 15 to hear the new mixes.
