I don't know if someone is reporting me, but like, I spoke with the customer service and got my name verified by submitting about 5 pieces of documentation. I should be good to go. They truly don't require your legal name. I don't really understand why this keeps happening and the whole waiting a day for any response and my friends being like "I can't see you?" is getting waaaay old.

The "logic games" part of the LSAT. There is no way I am suddenly becoming an algebra genius, so I guess I'll just have to shit the bed on that section.

    Gah.

I actually never saw it that way before. I'll definitely keep what you said in mind. This mindset regarding forgiveness is helping me already.

That sounds just about right, as it's far better to do that than to pretend to forgive others. Sometimes it's also better to let go by not even bringing certain topics up whenever you can avoid them as well, or refusing to giving such thoughts and emotions the time of day.

@elevenism - Yes, I'd definitely go with their advice too.

@marodi - And yes, you're absolutely right. I've also needed that reminder as well, as I sometimes forget that forgiveness isn't necessarily reconciliation, or regaining somebody's trust and respect, nor is it condoning the damage that has been done.

@kleiner352 - I just thought that you'd like to catch these posts as well.

Did you also give Facebook a cell phone number or a home phone number? I've also been locked out of Facebook before, and a phone number is usually the first thing Facebook asks from me. I also know what that's like, and I definitely agree with all the things you've said about it so far.

By population, but it's a giant suburb. Hence why Chicago is known as the Second City (also the name of the improv group).

Fuck tha rain. Last night the roads were like a mirror, all the better to see the assholes with their fog lights and high beams on. I'd like to know what fucking lane I'm in, OK?

Hmm, I suppose the TV stations in bigger cities have more self-respect. The words "local news" still make me shudder.

Not true. There is an actual CITY of Los Angeles within the County of Los Angeles. And it's bigger than Chicago (both in population and area size). :P

HA I was counting the seconds until you responded. There is no county of Chicago and the city area is actually relatively really small (houses are jam-packed in since the 20s to 40s). But it's an old "city" like Brooklyn.

Except Chicago's a bigger cesspool than Brooklyn. Uglier, too.

Dropping just shy of A THOUSAND DOLLARS this morning just to get our lawyer to sign the papers for us to officially move in to our condo. Took literally 30 seconds.

    Dude.

    $990 for lawyer sign off
    $400 for inspection
    $6,000 to furnish the place

I could go on. We put the 5% down two years ago and in that time managed to scrape together another 30K or so, so we've paid these expenses off and put another 4K down, but we're just gonna invest the other 20K or so and let it simmer for 4 years or so, and then just kick it to the next (bigger) place. Also, in Canada anyways, you don't pay the property transfer tax of $2,500 on your first home purchase, so we dodged that...but won't next time. fml.

Don't buy in the City of Chicago. The attorney fees are the cheapest thing you'll pay (avg $500). $7.50 per thousand transfer taxes to the City are nuts. Then add pre-paid interest, inspection (if you're smart) avg $300, fees to the assoc if you buy condo, appraisal fee etc to lender. You have to go to the closing, here, though; hardly any lender will allow you to close agency style with a power of attorney. Real estate is different from state to state, let alone in different countries, so don't look at his experience as yours. Canada's real estate market is the insanity that was ours before the crash.

We didn't buy a dining room set until, eh, 8 years after we bought our house? I couldn't find one I liked. The couch took even longer. We finally had a leather sectional custom made. Until then, we used the futon from my old apartment.

Ok so @Charmingly Miserable and i thought it would be cool to make an ets poetry thread, and we did, a long ass time ago.

But the only people other than the two of us who have participated are @renholder and @Pillfred .

Now we are a damn creative bunch of folks. I KNOW that a hell of a lot more ets crew writes poetry than just the 4 of us.

    It's under artistic expression.

Please to contribute a poetries, thank you?

We already had our crash, though...about 6-7 years ago it crashed hard. Vancouver's main problem in terms of real estate, well...it's main problem (among a million others) is that there's simply no fuckin' room left. The amount of towers going up here in the lower mainland is something like 5x that of any other major city in Canada...we've got nowhere left to build but up, and the powers that be are well aware of the fact. Great for me when I turn around to sell my place in 4ish years...a shit basement suite in the area we're moving to is currently running you $1000-$1100 per month. Our entire monthly cost of living will only be about $400 more than that, and ours is going to be a still relatively new condo in mint shape with a 10th floor view.

That or the market crashes again and we live there forever lol.

Your market is still WAY the fuck overpriced and nearly all experts are saying that a major "correction" is looming. For instance, see this. And this. Which is what happened to us ... a "correction." When ours "crashed," it wasn't a crash, really, but prices came back down to REALISTIC levels. You're still in that housing bubble.

Chicago, proper, has the same problem regarding room for real estate, which caused suburban sprawl. Lots of high-rises went up in downtown Chicago (or, construction continued) once the mortgage crisis and recession let up, but the housing market has never come back to pre-crisis levels and probably never will. Although, yesterday, somebody finally bought that Trump penthouse for $17 million cash (it listed for $32 million for a long time so that was quite a hit on the list price).

No yeah I've read a ton of that online recently, but they really like to be doomsayers when it comes to calling for the bubble to burst. There were tons of articles back in 2012 on CBC and elsewhere saying the same thing.

Well, I've been in real estate law for over 26 years ... All's I'm gonna say is, don't improve your new place anymore, and don't buy any more real estate. Things don't continue to go up and people can't go into that much debt forever. :-)

We won't be buying our second place until probably 2019 or so, housing bubbles are pretty regional, and Vancouver's is one of the most resilient. Hell, even Vernon Smith said that even though a recession is practically impossible to predict with 100% accuracy, we're looking good. Never was gonna improve our place, just buy it, live in it, and sell it when we move in to a bigger detached townhouse in about four years. We good.

Honestly, after we retire, if we ever decide to move, we'd consider selling this house (it'll be paid off in two years, we retire in two years, mandatory retirement for the husband) and RENTING instead of buying. Our boat is a tax writeoff, because it has a kitchen, LOL.

The husband wants to retire and rent ... IN VANCOUVER, lol. Because, evidently, you can have a boat in the water a lot longer, there, than you can here in the midwest. Retiring in your early-50s will be kinda weird, though. It feels sorta illegal. Like some retirement police are gonna come and say "HEY, YOU'RE NOT OLD ENOUGH FOR THAT! GET BACK TO WORK!" But you can get some pretty cool rentals in Vancouver, especially for expats from Chicago.
