    Comics!!!

I'm feeling white and nerdy lately. So let's get this thread going.
    • What are you reading right now?
    • What are your favorite comics?
    • Which release are you waiting for?
Right now I'm reading The Walking Dead (which is fucking amazing), Knightfall and Kick-Ass.

I finished reading Superman: Red Son and Batman: The Man Who Laughs, and I was blown away by them.

I don't like Superman very much, sometimes I hate him, but Red Son was really good (they turn Superman into a communist).

And this looks interesting, I might check it out soon.

Good thread, but should be in the literature sub-forum. I recently read Rutu Modan's Exit Wounds, which was awesome.

It's written by an Israeli woman. Comics are now the domain of everyone, not just the white, the male and nerdy. So please ammend your prejudices accordingly k thkz.

I fucking love me some comics. I'm not currently reading one but I've been on and off on reading Alan Moore's Lost Girls:

    Pretty awesome so far =]

Also, next semester I'm taking a literature class on Graphic Novels and for the final we're supposed to sort of create our own sort of. I can't fucking wait!

I just finished reading the 14th issue of The Walking Dead ("No Way Out"); it's probably the most intense issue of the series so far.

Overall, no comic series can top Neil Gaiman's Sandman for me. It's modern day mythology, and time and time again, (as geeky as it sounds and as it should sound) I find myself revisiting and sharing some of the wonderful stories with friends and family.

And of course, there's Batman. My favorites are still The Long Halloween, Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?, The Killing Joke, and even though I find Grant Morrison pretentious as fuck, Arkham Asylum is a gem for Dave McKean's art alone.

Nice DC 52 list there, I'd add All-Star Western, Resurrection Man, Batgirl, Demon Knights, & Deadman to the list.

DC 52 aside, I'm also reading "The Ray", limited 4 issue run as well as "Penguin: Pain and Prejudice", a Penguin origin story.

And from Image, "The Strange Talent of Luther Strode".

Has anyone been keeping up to date on Deadpool and the 'DEAD' arch? It's awesome. I love Deadpool and to be honest, I'm kinda excited to see him die (if he does anyways).

I just read the first issue of Saga (http://www.imagecomics.com/comics/4620/Saga-1)

I loved Brian K. Vaughan's Y the last man, and this feels like a really strong start. Has a great space-fantasy feel to it, kinda old school, but in a good way.

I never read Fear Itself, so I can't exactly give you a frame of reference there, but I am loving AVX. I read parts of House of M, and then kind of fell off after that, until getting back into things relatively recently. I am still figuring out which books work for me, and which don't.

Back to AVX; the set-ups, the pay-offs, and the subtlety used so far has been impressive. It really shows the dedication in building up the story line, and I think it's been planned for a long, long time. The fights have been well done too, and AVX Versus is kind of this fun side boxing match that gives you the epic battles geeks crave that the comics can't show due to their focus on furthering the story.

The infighting, betrayal, and difference of opinion between major players is really heating things up. A lot of people have their own agenda. Scarlet Witch is obviously going to play a big role, she's sort of lurking in the background, but there have been some hints that she is subconsiously controlling the phoenix, or possibly something on an even larger scale than that.

I am really enjoying AVX. Round 3 just came out recently and I loved it. The ending to that issue was awesome. I'm pretty pumped for the next issue.

Also the new issue of Deadpool that came out last Wednesday was really good as well. Things are getting pretty crazy.

Sounds good, im really want Jean Grey to come back from the grave at last, i always liked her and im sick of Emma Frost as the main X Girl, she's a villan for christ's sake, im not a huge fan of bringing dead characters back to life, but Jean deserves it.

On Topic, I got this last weekend:

Awesome art and a nice story to begin the saga, very Alan Moore/Grant Morrison-influenced with some cool twists to the character never done before, im happy DC comics brought him back!

So it seems, the classic character from DC Comics that's gay is none other than: Alan Scott (The first Green Lantern)

    Currently reading Osamu Tezuka's Ayako:

It's brilliant, can't believe it took me this long to read a Tezuka book.

So I came across this cool checklist, since Marvel's website is a joke when it comes to breaking everything down, in terms of the AvX timeline and associated books. Some are claimed as tie-ins (X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, Wolverine) but really aren't. It's been a good run thus far, things are just starting to heat up. Here is a full up to date list of all the books you will want to get your paws on to get fully immersed in the story, and the order they should be read in (I'm going to throw up a torrent soon after AvX #6 comes out in June).

    Prologue
    000 Marvel Point One #1
    001 Avengers: X-Sanction #1
    002 Avengers: X-Sanction #2
    003 Avengers: X-Sanction #3
    004 Avengers: X-Sanction #4
    005 Avengers #24.1

    Main Event: Part I
    006 Avengers vs. X-Men #0
    007 Wolverine and The X-Men #9
    008 Avengers vs. X-Men #1
    009 New Avengers #24
    010 Avengers vs. X-Men #2
    011 Avengers #25
    012 AvX: Versus #1
    013 Uncanny X-Men #11

Interlude I The K'un Lun Prophecy of The Phoenix
    014 New Avengers #25
    015 New Avengers #26

    Main Event: Part II

Picked up Clint, the brainchild magazine of Mark Millar.

It's nice to read a mag that's a little bit closer to my taste in comics than fucking Wizard, but less artsy than The Comics Journal. Also, it's great price, $6.99 for a 100 page publication (and it includes 4 full 24 page titles).

To be completely honest, I don't think that this is a story that had to be told. I was fine not knowing what Dream did before he got captured in issue 1. Funny thing, I was actually joking to my friends about a Sandman prequel when Before Watchmen was announced...

On the other hand, Neil Gaiman is a brilliant writer, and I trust him. If someone can mess with the Sandman saga it's him.

I'm just glad Gaiman's getting back into comics. You know, as opposed to another potboiler novel or an expanded vaudeville roadshow.
