There was a small thread about these guys on ETS, but I don't think they were talked about nearly enough....seeing as my obsession with them now rivals that of the love I had for NIN, Tool, and APC in the previous decade. They just got done supporting Opeth on their North American tour, but the band has been around forever and have explored numerous musical styles since then.

me loves the Katatonia. never properly got into Night is the New Day, though — i quite like it, but i didn't obsess over it like i did with Viva Emptiness and The Great Cold Distance. still, i look forward to new material from them.

Katatonia is amazing. Both their early death/doom stuff and their newer alternative stuff. I got into them when I saw them opening for Opeth and bought their reissue of Last Fair Deal Gone Down from the merch stand.

I actually was introduced to this band via the Chevelle forum (the band not the car). The first song I heard was Leaders, which I loved. Then I got Great Cold Distance, then NitND. Wow! Incredible band, very talented. Gorgeous melodies and harmonies mixed with darkness and heaviness.
Also the art for their albums, by Travis Smith, is perfect.
