I'll go first I guess.

I think we'll have an arena tour starting late summer going into fall 2017.
I'm not expecting any dates in the spring. Summer amphitheater could be possible but it all depends on when the new material is released.
I have no clue who would handle bass/guitar duty but I'm pretty sure the rest of the lineup will be the same with Fink, Cortini and Rubin. If Rubin is busy with another project, I'd expect Freese to come back.

Nothing against Ilan - he's a perfectly fine drummer, but man, I would so enjoy seeing Josh Freese back with the band. Based on his twitter, Ilan seems to have a lot going on with his own projects, so he may not be available on Trent's timeline to jump back into NIN, but again Josh is busy these days too, so who ends up behind the drums will be a mystery for a while. I just really hope there ARE live drums. Nothing against the more electronic side of things, but when songs are performed without drums live, they almost always feel like they're missing something. I would be surprised if live NIN didn't have Robin and Alessandro for the foreseeable future. The other spots are kind of a crap shoot, and we'll almost definitely see someone in NIN that's never been there before. As far as when.... Well, that's the question. I'm guessing a few summer festivals and then a full-fledged fall/winter headlining tour. Until something is announced, I think it's safe to say a tour is a ways away.

EXACTLY!! 4-5 years is NOTHING Compared to the wait for that bloody new Rammstein album!! I used to think 4-5 years was long, but it really isn't. Time flys by as an adult. We're already at 7 years and counting for Rammstein's followup record. And look at TOOL? That's over 10 years now. If Trent and friends take 5 years, consider that awesome!!

I started going to concerts at 15yrs old in Oct. 2000. It was a fucking long 5 year wait to see NIN for my first time in 2005. Then 2009-2013 was a long 4 year wait

Agreed 100%. Ilans great and all but Josh Freese is Josh fucking Freese. And it doesnt feel like a 'rock' show without live drums. Those first few songs on the early Tension shows without live drums, (copy, CBH, etc) sound like something is missing. Even on the ep, CBH sounds kinda limp. Its a cool idea and all you know, standing behind keyboards and maybe or maybe not pushing some buttons, but nin live works so much better with that powerful sound. Its kind of boring to watch as well unless there is a huge screen with cool shit. If im watching live music, i want to watch LIVE music. Not just buttons and knobs maybe or maybe not being played with. Otherwise i will just listen to the album.

Dont get me wrong, i love the electronic side of nin and when they were doing the great destroyer live in the mid 2000's in front of the screen, it was awesome. I love it all but would prefer drums. And Copy of A sounds SO much better live with real drums.

Perfect live lineup: TR, Josh freese on drums, Robin on lead guitar, alessandro on keys and greg edwards on 2nd guitar/bass/keys/backing vocals. I feel like I say this everytime a new nin live thread opens. I also really liked them as a 4 piece band from the wave goodbye shows. i never noticed an absence in the sound of those shows. Something about them being a 4 piece is cool.

If we get Josh Freese back, it means very limited touring (probably just select North American cities). He's been doing mostly short runs of gigs since 2009 with Sting and such.

Coachella 2017? The Smashing Pumpkins are a safe bet to be on the line up. The rumor mill started churning this week for other artists; Beyonce & Kendrick Lamar possible headliners. Don't know if that'd be a duo set up or separate. ...NIN could close out Sunday night on the Main Stage.

No, they couldn't. Sunday night closer is the "headliner" for the whole festival, and NIN aren't big enough for that anymore. It's either going to be a hugely popular and currently relevant radio act or some shitty DJ.

I'm not saying that the Pumpkins nor NIN would headline. When Corgan announced he was reforming them, part of the story was they were fielding offers from festivals. Also, if you've been to the fest, different bands close different stages regardless of their font size on the poster. I saw HTDA play the final set of Friday night in the Mojave tent. No, they weren't 'headliners' per se. NIN, whom are better and more relevant than the Pumpkins, could easily play one of the three days' final sets on the three bigger stages.

Personally I am getting a bit concerned about the future of Live NIN.

Firstly naming Atticus permanent band member: I don't see Atticus as a strong live performer, especially in a NIN context. Would Trent bring NIN on the road without a permanent band member?

Seconding dropping Rob Sheridan as graphics artist: Rob has traditionally been an important piece in creating live graphics. Will the new graphics artist take on the same role or "just" provide album art, website graphics etc?

Is the future going to be Trent and Atticus recording pieces of art/music under different headings? Sometimes movie scores, sometimes NIN, sometimes HTDA?

Since live NIN is more than half the experience for me I would hate that scenario to play out. Am I being paranoid? Please allow me to get rid of this paranoia with some good arguments. :)

To be fair, half the fun about NIN is that you can never really second-guess Trent Reznor. It's a huge leap to assume that every NIN tour/live event needs live graphics. It could be anything.
The same thing is true about the music. I love to speculate what the new stuff will sound like (I do it before every release) but it's always its own thing.

But I learned over the years that it is without exceptions always better than what I imagined. It's okay that you can't see how it will work. I'll bet that TR does!

I'd say it's more likely that it'll come after the big projects next year happen. You'd think one would be an album and it makes sense to start a world tour after that. The fact that he mentioned the live line up by name strengthens that too I think.

Wait, what?...

The very last part of the interview was him stating that there was no disrespect intended to Ilan, Robin and Alessandro by naming Atticus a permanent member, it's just he is next to him in the studio whereas they are more on the touring side. The fact that he named them specifically when the line up tends to be rather fluid to me suggests that he is exploring what is next in the live format (and that they will be included). Josh Eustis is the only former (I think?) member listed in the discography section too so I could see him being involved too.

Since Atticus is an official member now, I wonder if he'd play bass on tour. Alessandro may have handled bass duties for HTDA live performances, but ninwiki says that Atticus played bass on their studio releases.

I strongly prefer the NIN live band to be a five-piece (with a bassist AND a keyboardist; also a drummer and a lead guitarist, obviously) so I'm hoping that a bassist will be added, while the lineup is otherwise the same as the most recent incarnation of the band. If not Atticus, then either Josh Eustis or Danny Lohner.

I hope Trent brings Pino back on tour. He brought a well needed funkiness to the live shows and brought HM tracks to life. Also, the back up singers were a great addition.

Trent's always going so crazy with the visuals, I'd like if he went the opposite direction this time around and did a more stripped down tour. Focus more on the live band than a crazy light show. Don't get me wrong, Trent and co. know how to put on one crazy light show. But how much bigger and better can you go? Or perhaps do what Amon Tobin did with his ISAM live tour and go with three dimensional object projection.

You guys are quick as fuck... I just came here to post this and sure enough, you already know about it.

I actually saw it 20 secs after it was posted according to the timestampl. It was weird because I wasn't expecting NIN when I refreshed my Twitter feed.

Just speculation since it is one date listed, since Trent has been in The Fragile headspace lately, perhaps he has planned a special recorded show in which he will play The Fragile in its entirety live like he did with The Downward Spiral at Bowery Ballroom.

Lets get a proper venue around here for once. Lollapalooza has fucked us since 2008.

Yeah, but I could live with a few more infos, at least after he finishes stuff.

I mean, he put out a new EP and gave one single interview to promote it. And we don't even know yet it Patriot's Day will see an official release some day...

On Topic: very cool! Of course I am interested in headline shows in Europe, preferrably in the city where I live. But I don't even know yet where that will be this summer, so as long as it will be published on bluray i am fine with it. :X

I believe that it's unlikely to be a one-off date. I'm sure we'll see other festival dates.
Montreal has Osheaga the next weekend. I'm crossing my fingers.

There is no way Trent and friends would get together for 1 off-show. He usually plans and practices extensively. NIN is not known for just doing 1 show. I bet this will be 2013 all over again. He'll start with a dew summer festivals, release a record in the fall and do a late fall tour.

With that said, normally I'd be all over traveling for NIN... Festival or not, but... I just cannot get behind that shitty lineup. Wow...
Between this and no APC dates in Canada, today's news has been a bust. :(

Man every time I see Pino on stage with NIN I just think he looks like the dude from South Park

Watch Jurassic Park or Independence Day. That'll fix it.

I think if it were just a one off show, Trent would say that.

Ok mr "no tour plans in the near future" where are the rest of the tour dates? I'm not paying $300 for a festival show (with acts I've never heard of and would likely be standing around during just waiting for NIN to come on) when I paid like $30 for Made In America to be on the rail all day for NIN and there were actually good bands that day (QOTSA was awesome).
I'm excited that this has been announced, but god, how exactly did NIN get thrown in with these acts, for a festival in NYC?

Made in America was awesome. This lineup, not so awesome. I have only heard of NIN, Tribe Called Quest, and Frank Ocean. The rest I have no idea who they are, and probably aren't really my thing. I'm probably just going to get the ticket for sunday and spend the rest of the weekend exploring NYC since I've never been there.

I have to be honest, most festivals now are pretty...meh. There are just SO many and nearly every band has played every festival within the last few years, it's hard to find line up's that are good anymore.

That suits me though, if NIN do another festival in the UK (most likely not Reading and Leeds again lol) i'll get a one day ticket...well try too.

some of my fave NIN shows are festivals.

Coachella 05, Sasquatch 06 (the tour where he just shows up unannounced with everyone still stetting up), Lolla 08

I only missed Vodo 05 because of the hurricane! Trent never slacks and I think the added pressure of festival competition makes him and the band play hard.

I saw the Panorama poster and I wanted to throw my money at it.
