I've been trying to play this game. It has a lot of potential. However, I think it's pretty unacceptable how fuckin buggy this service is. The servers being CONSTANTLY overloaded is somewhat understandable, but they really should have expected this much hype. But goddamn, the game is more buggy than it's not. GPS fucking up, freezing the entire phone, gym battle 1HP glitches, etc. It's kinda amateur and it runs like a beta.

Regardless, I'm going to keep trying to power through it. I hope the developers iron out all the issues sooner rather than later because I'm still pretty excited about it. My real concern though is how many casual people are going to try this game out, get the "servers overloaded" message a few times or some other combination or bugs or glitches, then just uninstall the game and never try it again because they're not hardcore hyped fans. I feel like Niantic needs to get their together QUICKLY.

It has already. Pretty sure I read something where someone was hit by a car while fucking with it and ended up losing their life. Unsure if it was real as I didn't investigate it further but I wouldn't be too surprised.

outside of the city it's not nearly as popular but it's been nuts this summer here. gamers who would normally be sheltered inside are all out and talking with people they never knew before.

One of my best girlfriends of many years is up here visiting in the Chicago area with her husband and two kids (11 and 13) and the kids are playing it to keep themselves occupied; they are staying at a hotel and the kids were in the parking lot collecting Pokemon Go! stuff and they ran into a whole family on their phones doing the same thing. We all went to Racine WI and, same thing, people everywhere doing this. My husband and the kids' Dad, too, walking around doing this stuff together.

I don't particularly see how anyone can actually trash this App. Regardless of if you like Pokemon or not, it has been a truly amazing thing seeing everyone come together over this thing. Especially after the week we all had here in America last week. To see everyone work together and get off of their couches to explore the world with each other, it's a beautiful thing. Regardless of if they're catching digital monsters or not.

Also it's fun. I think I suck at it though, because my highest CP on any Pokemon I currently have is 350. I went to a Gym and everyone had like 1000+ CP Pokemon so my ass got demolished in seconds.

Who knows how long this App will stay popular, but fuck it, it's getting people outside and working together, so what else can you ask for.

ive got 72 in my pokedex now. tonight was pretty epic for finding new ones.

finally caught pikachu(!), jigglypuff, charmeleon, abra, etc etc. they're doing a good job of mixing up different pokemon each day in diff locations.

off to manhattan friday and going back to other areas in the BX tomorrow. great game.

I love this game for what it is. It's not perfect, by any means, but it's simple fun and it gets you around so much that it's hard to say "Nah, not worth it." Like, I'm talking my dog so much now that he's spent halfway through the day. How can you say that's a bad thing? People on KU campus are setting up lawn chairs by the dozens and just camping out to catch Pokemon and meet people. Pedestrians on Mass Street (the bar/entertainment hub of downtown here in Lawrence) are being friendly and pointing each other out to where so and so Pokemon are. Tonight, some guy heard me flip over FINALLY seeing a Ghastly, but it disappeared right away. He called us over to where it was, near him, and my friend and I talked to him and his friend for a little bit. Random dude stopped us just to say there was a Bulbasaur on the next block, which we'd already found - but that wasn't the point! There's even a Pokemon party planned at the Granada next weekend, and it's drumming up one hell of a response. It's fucking fantastic.

Also, 400 FUCKING CANDIES TO EVOLVE INTO A GYRADOS ARE YOU MOTHERFUCKING SHITTING MY NUTS.

Tell me about it. There are 3 Pokestops and 1 Gym in my town, as far as I know. I believe I'll have to drive 30 miles north to reach civilization. So it's kinda hard to play. Somebody got hit by a car while using their phone. The media is fucking stupid and trying to frame shit to take advantage of the popularity. There's never been a fucking news report that said, "Man killed while crossing the street - was using FACEBOOK on phone. Here's what parents need to know to keep their children safe while using Facebook in public!"

I'm easily annoyed, but this whole Pokemon thing has been really irritating me. Not the game itself, I'm playing it and it has a lot of potential (not that it isn't still filled with game-breaking bugs, but whatever.) But I'm annoyed by the public discussion. First of all, all the dumbass jokes.

It's been a week straight of everybody on the entire planet repeating the same 1 or 2 jokes with the slightest variations.

*picture of Pokemon in an unexpected place* *joke about how people are going outside now* *joke about how people are going outside now* *picture of a Pokemon in a funny place* *joke about how people are going outside now* *joke about how people aren't paying attention to current events, e.g. police shooting and protests* Ad nauseum.

People will tell me to grow a sense of humor and learn how to take a joke lol, but goddamn repetitive jokes are one of my biggest pet peeves. When I see hundreds and hundreds of people repeating what's essentially the same joke, it drives me up the wall.

The other things that're annoying me about this are all the comments about how it's going to cause harm, like what Space Suicide mentioned. People are going to walk out into the street and die, people are going to walk in the ghetto and die, people are going to be tracked to Pokestops alone and be raped and murdered, etc. It's so dumb how the media is milking this phenomenon for every drop they can possibly suck into their filthy mouths. Sigh.

Justtt started playing yesterday. All of my friends were amazed that I wasn't playing from being such an avid gamer. It was really my girlfriends daughter that got me into it and now I found myself driving around for an hour and a half last night, and then walking around my neighborhood today for another 2 hours. I was able to do the trick to start off with a Pikachu so that was pretty cool. I drive around at work all the time for a good portion of the day so I am able to hit a lot of Pokestops and what not. Definitely a lot of bugs they need to address here, but all in all, it is pretty dam fun. Just ended the night catching a 157 Squirtle.. fucker broke out 6 times.

I still get pidgeys and rattatas and other bug Pokemon. Even though others show in the "radar", they never pop up.

A lot of fans are pissed. Low level Pokemon are getting a bit harder to catch and fans are thinking they did it on purpose to make the player spend money on pokeballs.

Been playing this on and off, mostly with my kid. It's a fun family game. I made it up to level 20. The game has a LOT of work needed before it becomes a good game and something people will continue playing. The initial surge is absolutely dying down. Hopefully their plan for pushing feature updates every 2 weeks will help that.

However, I really do recommend checking out Ingress if you want something like PGo that is better. It's made by the same company and has been around for a few years. Ingress is actually where all the poke stops/gyms came from. Ingress is similar, but with some additional game mechanics that make for a much more competitive game and a massive game community that works together. (Despite lots of people being physically present together in PGo, it's mostly a solo game) Ingress has a great secret agent thing going on in it.

The steps never really worked for me to begin with, but they should at least fix it instead of taking it out completely. But what I have noticed is the increased difficulty in catching easy to get Pokémon. Before the update, I was level 15 and catching a 200 cp level Weedle or Pidgey was a piece of cake. Now I throw at least 5 Pokeballs and then it runs away... Every freaking time. This never happened before the update. Shit is broke.

Yes, it will work. A friend who lives in the middle of a forest in TN plays it constantly. She's even created a page for her team (I don't know jack about this game except for stuff she tells me). I guess the other 45 people who live in her town play it, too.

im level 22 and have 103 collected. should have 110ish in the next week or so. apparently City Island in NYC has almost every NA pokemon, minus some grass type, in a 1.5 mile by .5 mile island lol. I usually get one or two pikachu every night and theres a good amount of people out playing late night still.

flareon next, along with a strong oddish and riachu soonish.

i still need that venusaur, charizard and blastoise upgrades. nidoking is in my near future as well.

I saw a guy on YT hatch a Mr Mime the other day, so I think I can hatch a Tauros and you can hatch an ugly kangaroo thing. Most of all I want to hatch a Farfetch'd!

Also, I read an article that says Ditto can't be caught. What is in its place in the Pokedex? Or is it left out completely with no placeholder image or whatever?

Got two 10k eggs incubating. Another Vaporeon just evolved too. I've got about 8 Eevees. There is a big cemetery around here I drive around in circles with TONS of Pokestops and such, it's a gold mine. Great finds here too. I need one more Slowpoke, a couple more Psyduck and one more Bellsprout to evolve them.

It is also worth noting that 2km eggs will reveal the 2km Pokémon shown on the chart above. However, 5km eggs can contain those shown in the 5km list as well as those in the 2km list, while 10km eggs can contain any Pokémon from the 2km, 5km and 10km list. This means you could walk 10km and still hatch a Magikarp. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. You need a staggering 400 Candies to evolve a Magikarp but that is because it turns into the beast that is Gyarados (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Magikarp_(Pok%C3%A9mon)). This is the Pokémon illustrated when you first open the app.

Similarly, I live in a city that doesn't really have a lot going on as far as Pokemon (I'm still under 100 seen) and went to Buffalo last week. Holy shit, there was a spot where you could get like 5 stops at once without moving, and every 60 seconds a water type would pop up. I got over 100 Magikarp in the 3 hours I was there, a few new ones added to my Pokedex, and enough of some semi-rare ones to evolve them. It's INSANE how different this game is in bigger cities!

Trying to keep NIN topics on topic is hard when people go crazy about Pokemon Go instead. So, I'm replying to this here. Hope you guys don't mind.

I wouldn't know in your specific case, but here is an explainer on what it collects (http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/pokemon-go-privacy-policy-problems). And once you consent to that, the developers are allowed to share whatever they collect with any third parties, under no limitations, even after you stop playing.

Yeah, no it can't. And that's where I should have stopped reading, but I kept going. And it sure doesn't get any less fear-mongering tinfoil-hat level as it goes on.
So, Pokemon Go asks for access to your location (which, why again is that terrifying? It's a location-based game. When it's running, it needs to know where you are.) and your camera (which you can actually deny it permission to your camera and still play, just without AR mode, which is a battery drain anyway). The contacts access can be denied and still you have full usability. You don't have to enter any CC info. Your e-mails are not accessed.

That laughable "article" goes on down that rabbit hole even further...

Naw, I just live in the real world, that's all. There is 0 reason for Pokemon Go to add pop-up ads, especially after it's been out this long. They're already making double-digit millions. As for location-specific pokemon... what's the problem again? It's a free game. If you don't want to have to walk by outside of a store to catch something, you don't have to. I don't see how that's linked to some sort of evil data-collecting scheme.

Yes, the realities of knowing that this game will know where you are when you have it running, and if you choose to give it access to your camera (which doesn't mean it can take videos/pictures/recordings secretly and send that information to the company to sell to someone who wants to know that you thought Becky looked trashy in that dress last night, but rather, that the app can tell the camera to run in game when you select the option to use your camera) or choose to give it access to your contacts for future multiplayer experiences with people you know IRL, if that "totally terrifying personal information gathering scheme for world domination" ruins a free to play game that for once doesn't MAKE you buy anything eventually in order to keep playing and progress... then you have some issues that I can't help with.

Somehow out of most of my friends, I'm the one who is hooked on Pokemon Go...

Love the new buddy feature, though I noticed something odd - I've had a Sandshrew, Clefairy & now Pikachu as a walking buddy, Sandshrew & Clefairy both appear standing by my feet, Pikachu however is now perched on my shoulder - not sure if that is unique to him, or if I crossed some candy threshold.

Overall I feel like I have made some good progress (93/94 in the pokedex, level 23) been able to deal with some local gyms, and never really feel completely outmatched - however... wow this game is grindy, 100k+ levels are painful enough and bound to only get worse.

I am semi concerned with Winter, it gets cold enough here where my current playstyle of walking a lot is just not going to work.

Intrigued by how Pokemon Go is going to interact with Apple Watch, silly as it sounds, Pokemon could just be enough of a difference maker to buy an Apple Watch.

I'm doing ok with the pokedex. the Halloween special event was an unexpected boost.

I currently have 22 left to catch / evolve:

the 6 impossibles: Ditto, Articuno, Zapados, Moltres, Mew, Mewtwo.
the 2 Region locks: Kangaskhan, farfetched.
the final 14: Charmander, Blastoise, Primeape, Machamp, Golem, Seel & Dewgong, Muk, Gyarados, Lapras, Omastar, Aerodactyl, Dragonair & Dragonite.

Seel is the one evolvable pokemon that I've not caught / hatched, hope springs eternal.

According to my spreadsheet, only 1,612 km remain to buddy walk to evolve everything that is evolveable.

Finished my North American 142 back on Sept 30th. I'm really liking the current double spawn, double items at Pokestops promotion. The new Gym prestige system though is really terrible. I can understand wanting to make it harder to level the gyms up to 10. But they were already so ridiculously easy to take down. Makes it almost impossible to hold gyms for any length now, even at level 10. One of the best parts of this game is that it helps to get out and find other players in real life to play with. Making it so a player can easily take down level 10 gyms on their own just gives people one less reason to go out and make friends to battle with.

Looks like Ditto is in the game now.

I was catching things with my Plus and the phone locked and now my Pokédex says seen 1 caught 0 for Ditto. How did I see him?!

Ryan they're disguised as birds and rats. If your dex shows as seeing one it means you missed out on it when you saw it lol

phew this game... I am only casually playing it since my way to work has 10 pokestops that I come by which makes it a little interesting, since there is absolutely nothing going on where I actually live.

Have to say I got caught up in it a bit as I was only curious on how it actually worked when it was first released, then I kind of lost it for the last three months, even deleted it but I am slowly coming back to see if Niantic starts to really do something with the game... the arenas are boring as hell and usually I only collect things and breed eggs rather than play this game for real.

Has anyone hatched all the baby ones yet?

I've hatched 5 Pichu, 6 Igglybuff, 2 Cleffa, 2 Togepi (evolved one to Togetic), two Smoochum and one Elekid. Still need a Magby.

lately I've not been having much fun with the game, and haven't played much. A big part of that is the weather, with local temps at or below freezing or just generally miserable there hasn't been great opportunities to go out and grind away on eggs / buddy candy / catches.

meanwhile, RNG seems to want to screw me as much as possible, not much good hatching from eggs & been walking a magicarp since what seems like forever, probably early November, finally evolved it last week. got bite / twister, f me.

Oh my god, I can't believe my luck this morning! Get this:

So far I've received a Sun Stone, King's Rock and Metal Coat. Last night I asked my fiancé what item she thinks I'll get next. She said either King's Rock or Upgrade. Then what happens this morning? I go to (I'm pretty sure) the exact same stop I spun the Metal Coat from the other day and a King's Rock spun out, allowing me to get Slowking.

I was excited enough about that, then about 3 minutes later I see a Snorlax on the nearby list. I go to the stop and find the Snorlax, then it fled me after one razz and ultra ball. That pissed me off, then about 10 minutes later I checked my bag and - what?! - it's in there! Has that happened to anyone before? It fled but it ended up in my bag. Also I'm only one Totodile away from a good IV Feraligatr:

Found my second wild Ursaring earlier. I evolved one and caught two wild.

Also got a second sun stone and evolved to Sunflora this afternoon (and got a Dragon Scale this morning and evolved to Kingdra!)
