I've decided to keep the thread title simple so I just settled for Mega Man since that's where it all began. This thread also includes Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero, along with any other Mega Man series that was released since then. I've been way out of the loop for a long time coming. For whatever reason, it's as if I just forgot about playing anything from this series until I played Mega Man X again for the first time in quite a while. I can still play that game as if it just came out yesterday. I also played Mega Man X4 and thought of getting the Mega Man X Collection.

Anyway, discuss favorite games and memories you've had with Mega Man here.

@SM Rollinger (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=1705) - Even before I knew that you were a fan, your username kept reminding me of the Rolling Shield. Anyway, I thought that I'd make it a lot easier for you to catch this thread upon your return. :)

@Wolfkiller (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=675) - I noticed that you were a fan of Street Fighter and wondered if your fandom had extended to the Mega Man universe. I also couldn't help but notice that Sigma always kept reminding me of M. Bison.

well, you know i'm an old school gamer so it's no surprise my favorite games are the NES ones but recently i played the first three "X" games for SNES and i enjoyed them a lot, specially Megaman X2 that is my favorite from the SNES games.
Oh and the music is fuckin' awesome:

i want a fucking Mega Man tattoo.

Mega Man 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, hands down.
I've never quite beat it though. I HAVE gotten to, and through a couple of, the Dr Wily stages.
That dragon that knocks the blocks down always gets me.

Mega Man is one of the tightest (control-wise,) most creative and innovative, and unforgiving franchises of all time.
edit: henryeatscereal you got it all wrong on the music.
THIS is where it's at-8 bit DnB from the eighties. Bump that shit!

Re-edit: okay i forgive you. i didnt realize that the X series was SNES. I'm an old school gamer too. In fact, i'm about to put on a shirt with an NES controller on it when i get out the shower :)

Oh yeah i meant SNES, but if we're talking NES, the best soundtrack is "Megaman 2", no question about it, yet i've always found the "Megaman 3" music a bit underrated...

Weird we're talking mostly about the music but the games themselves are awesome...

fuuuuuuck yes.

i never knew you were a retro gamer, or if i did, i've forgotten.

I modded my wii to play NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, Game Boy, and GBA games. And i have hundreds of each on a flash drive...all the good ones.
Did you guys know you can do this to a Wii?
It's actually not even that complicated.

Sorry for double post... Kris asked for memories:

going to my parent's friend's house when MM2 had first been released. They had a kid my age and he said "dude, you GOTTA come check this out...you won't believe it!"

He took me to his room and showed me MM2. I remember losing my shit over those robotic cats!
I think i was nine.

Nintendo was SO fucking magical in those days, wasn't it? I remember my first time playing SMB on the NES better than i remember my first fuck.

And i think it's remembering the sense of wonder and the innocence of that time in my life that makes me ADORE the old games.

I have a big stack of WII games, but you'll most often catch me playing Gradius 3 or Pilotwings or Mega Man or some shit. :)

MM2 was the very, very first game I ever played. To this day I can beat it with a minimum of life loss. It's one of the best. I hold III in pretty high regard too.

Also love the X series, X4 has to be one of the best games ever. That godlike soundtrack!

I played through nearly all of the NES games in the series last summer. Wonderfully difficult - I did cheat a bit with the magic of save states at times :o - and yet so addictive. I think II is also my favourite in the series. I may give the Game Boy games a try in the near future.

Yo. Was never super hardcore into them (probably never actually beat any of the games as a kid) but I always enjoyed playing the shit out of them.

I'm pretty decent with OG Atari and Nintendo controllers...but I'm not much of a gamer so I fucking HATE even trying to play a game on a new console from the last 20 years or so. I just wanna chill out and play a game, ffs. And NOT have to learn how to use a whole new keyboard to do it, damnit.

Anyway, I loved the NES Mega Man game. Got some old VHS tapes of sleepover competitions with my pals somewhere.

As an adult, I've pretty much only gotten back into it for a few minutes every couple months to let my gamer-gf beat my ass while I'm playing as Mega Man on "Super Smash Bros.," but that's basically just random button-mashing.

And, OF COURSE, he shares that MM-swag with Marilyn Manson, so he'll ALWAYS have a piece of my heart, w00t.

Man I loved Mega Man so much. One of my all time fav franchises.

So is anyone aware of the band The Protomen? They did a concept album a while back based on the Mega Man mythos. It's OK, interesting listen for MM fans anyway. No idea what the band have been up to since that time, there was a dude here on the old ETS that was obsessed with them.

I always loved the Mega Man games, but I also always felt like their difficulty was overstated. I never really got what people thought was so challenging about them.

At this point I'm really interested to see how Mighty No. 9 turns out

Well, we talked about the music and we talked about our love for the games, but does anyone care about the story?
I know i do and it's a very elaborate one, specially when we are trying to explain what happened between the "Megaman" and "Megaman X" series, i saw this video a few months ago and i think it's a very interesting view, check it out:

I think stuff like about 5:40 here, for example (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s5VC_IJOiE&index=6&list=PL6B690C4F36BC0EE4) is what comes to mind for some. I feel like it's a staple of many MM games to have just one major 'horseshit' platforming section.

In particular, I'd say the boarding sections in MM8 would qualify as mine. Jump, jump. Shoot, shoot. Jump, jump. Slide, slide. Jump, jump, shoot, shoot, slide slide slideslidejumpjumpshootshootslideslide shootshootslideshootjumpjump FUCKING CHRIST ARGH

i've got the mega man mega collection for gamecube! it's a little weird with the gamecube controller (which i normally love), but it's nice to have so many of the games in one place.

i got a game boy for christmas when i was 11 and only had mega man 2 (aside from tetris) to play for at least a year. i played it constantly and eventually beat it. i bought it in the eshop and i can barely finish a single boss. actually i haven't yet.

these games were always so difficult. memorizing levels isn't fun anymore.
