It's summer. The perfect time for some not so serious discussions.
I present to you: the pizza thread.

My favourite type is: thin crust, lots of tomato sauce, very little cheese. Hard to come by, I know.
Midwest pizza has too much crust for me. New York is better. Italy is best. Of course.

Though today I had some of this, which was delicious:

When I am in New York next I will have some of this: Artichoke pizza omg sensational

What pizzas do you eat/love?

I prefer New York Style/Thin Crust pizza. Load it up with meat: Pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon and beef and its mine!

I don't discriminate. I'll eat Chicago and Deep Dish but it's not my usual go to style.

Here in Chicago, "thin crust" is the pizza of choice (it's cut into squares (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago-style_pizza#mediaviewer/File:Chicago_thin_crust_pizza.jpg)) AND I FUCKING HATE IT, because it's crunchy GAH!!!!!

And I hate that Chicago casserole pizza, that's mostly for tourists LOL.

I want my pizza hand-tossed and floppy and GREASY and CHEEEEEEEZY.

CHEEEEEEEEEZE!!!! Bring on the Lipitor!

Also, where is that NY Artichoke pizza from? Looks delicious.

While in Chicago last year, I took my sister to some well known deep dish pizza place. I actually wanna say it was Gino's. It wasn't a busy night. We waited an hour+ to actually get our pizza. And it wasn't even that good when it arrived.

Because they have to bake it forever like a fucking Thanksgiving turkey. And you eat one piece and you have to go lie down somewhere, just like after Thanksgiving dinner.

Anthony Bourdain tried Burt's Place in Morton Grove (http://www.travelchannel.com/video/dive-into-chicago-deep-dish-11741) and said it was maybe an exception to his hatred of Chicago style pizza.

Here's Tony's take on the perfect Neapolitan pizza (http://www.travelchannel.com/video/perfect-neapolitan-pizza-15494).

I *love* a good wood-fired MARGHERITA PIZZA mmmmmm God gimme.

My favorite pizza toppings as of now would have to be mushrooms, onions, pineapple, and pepperoni. I actually like anchovies, but not as much as I've used to. I also suppose that barbecue chicken is just fine to me. It's also been a while since I've tried Pizza Margherita, as I almost forgot that was also another one of my favorite pizzas. I also love to eat beef patties and drink soda while I'm eating pizza. I usually find myself drinking Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew, Mug Root Beer, or A&W Root Beer. I'd also go for either the grape or orange Fanta/Welch's/Crush flavored sodas if they're available.

As for actual franchises, it turned out that I liked Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa John's Pizza. It's sort of a bummer and a shame that my local Papa John's Pizza closed down though. I also tried Giordano's Famous Stuffed Pizza in Chicago, and I also loved it. I'll be sure to hopefully go there if/whenever I go back to Chicago.

Damn my Italian background and our minimalistic pizzas!
Noooooooo those minimalistic pizzas are the fucking AWESOME BEST!!!! Those are the best pizzas here in the States. Those overloaded pizzas on TV are only at crap-o places like Pizza Hut. There really IS such a thing as way too much cheese on a pizza. it really does make you feel really awful after you eat it. (Some of these places, like Dominos, has crust stuffed with cheese!) That's the big problem with those deep dish pizzas, they're so heavy and, ugh, each slice must weigh a half-pound! And a lot of that weight is cheese. I'm serious about the Lipitor! A few slices of that and you can hear your arteries snapping shut! I *love* cheese but jesus christ not an entire pound of it on a slice of pizza. There has to be some balance, there.

We usually end up going to Piero's in HP, and this is the average amount of cheese in Chicago. Not minimal, but not Lipitor either. But, it's still typical Chicago thin crust (crunchy) so it's not my favorite but bad pizza's better than no pizza.

Yeah, I definitely love Italian style pizza, but just once, I would love a cheese overdose American style pizza. We have stuffed cheese crust at Pizza Hut in Aus (which is amazing) but they put a pretty standard amount of cheese on the pizza itself.

I need to go on a pizza tour of New York. Sarah K if I come to NYC can we eat pizza together?

Btw, even though there is no "dallas style" pizza,
there are, for some reason, a SHITLOAD of great pizza places in Dallas. I think it has to do with restaurants being one of the "go-to" places about dallas...that, and shopping.

If you are into pizza, check out Frazzini's (where you might meet your favorite band after a gig) and Mama Mia in Deep Ellum,
Eno in the Bishop Arts District,
and downtown, Ravenna, Porta di Roma, and of course Campisi's.

Now i will shut up, because i sound like a fucking dallas commercial.
Oh yeah, and one more thing...notice how everything says "eleven" on it in dallas?
i wrote that shit.

If you're in Columbus, OH, go to Plank's Cafe & Pizzeria on Parsons Avenue (there are two Plank's, both in Columbus, so this is crucial). In my top 3 pizzas I've ever had. Granted I haven't tried as many pizzas as I possibly could, but this one is definitely always a real delight.

favorite pizza topping combo: pineapples and olives. sweet & salty.

my college (SUNY oneonta) had a rather decadent, best when drunk, pizza topping: cold cheese. you take a hot slice out of the oven and dump a bunch of cold mozzarella on top. sounds bizarre, but tastes delicious. kind of miss it. i think it originated in long island, of all places.

also, is that guy's MO just to be unnecessarily antagonistic, monotone ranting and all? whatever. i'm all for getting down about NY, but not by that guy's half-baked logic.

true that. we do have a decent keyfood near us that has everything we need... otherwise, we were fresh direct junkies before we moved. bodegas are good for beer, soda, and the occasional kitty snuggle.

What a stupid video. Conversely, if I wanted to eat a bunch of vegetables, I'd order a fuckin salad.

Pepperoni and cheese IS pizza. Everything else is just bullshit marketing and/or vegetarian/religion related. I am flexible though; I don't mind Cheeseburger pizza (ground beef, bacon, cheddar), Buffalo Chicken Pizza with feta or goat cheese, Steak strips, pulled pork, and other meaty BBQ shit like that.

I'm really not a huge fan of meat on pizza. I like onions and mushrooms. If I'm forced into meat, I pick sausage.

I think because when I was growing up, my dad would always order meat lover's pizza, and it was just TOO MUCH.

I'm totes going to that Artichoke place on my next fat day.

@aggroculture (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=318) - Thanks for making this thread. Knowing myself, I'll probably have a habit of checking it out on Friday evenings, as that's when I usually start going out for fast food.

This is also the pizzeria that's a few blocks away from my house. I've been going there regularly for quite some time now. It's in NYC, at Bayside, Queens.

Hah, my aunt lives in Bayside.

I am anti-cheese. That shit on most US pizzas: that ain't cheese. It's plastic pretending to be cheese. Plasticheese.
But good mozzarella di bufala, mmm-hmmm. Count me in.
I grew up in Italy: I can't undo that.

Another type of pizza I LOVE: Grandmother:

Thick deep crunchy crisp crust, lotsa tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella used sparingly. Delizioso!

I fully expect to get raked over the coals for this, but for 2 bucks for a 4 pack as a late night snack I gotta say I really crave these puppies sometimes. It's not even the same ballpark as legit pizza place pizza obviously, and I'm not trying to say they are quality, they're not. But there is just something about them, man, they can hit the spot.

Not to sound like a dick, but I make a pretty damn good pizza if I do say so myself :D (and going by what everyone else tells me when I make it for them). We're lucky enough to have a pizza oven at the back of my grandparents place so we do everything from scratch and it surprisingly turns out good even considering how many times I've fucked it up recently. It usually comes out thick and we run just basic toppings (cheese, cheese and garlic oil, plain garlic oil, bruschetta, garlic oil and chilli, basil mozzarella and prosciutto, and when we feel like it a bit of salami here and there).

As for commercially sort of pizza's, I haven't really found anywhere apart from Frankie's in the city that has made me go HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING, it's just so thin and delicious and goes down so well with a beer.

Best pizza I've ever had in a restaurant was at that 400 Degrees restaurant in Melbourne...before it was announced on the news that it has the best pizza ever :D
