On our way to the vet for our first check-up. He loves the vibrations from my exhaust system and refused to move from this spot. It made it kind of hard to drive but we made home safely

This is kitty and puppy heaven and I love it. Cute pets, everyone! I'd post a picture of my cat but she's a bit shy right now because she has fleas. How the heck did she catch fleas is beyond me; she's not in contact with other animals and beside going out on the balcony (and I live on the third floor of an apartment building), she's an indoor cat.

Marodi, fleas can hitch a ride on humans, oddly enough. They will jump on your legs/clothes if you walk through an area, lets say grass where other cats and dogs travel through. And an indoor cat can get infected with tapeworms since flees are an intermittent host.

Hmm...I didn't even know about the British Blues until now. After reading the temperaments of the two breeds I'm not really sure what he is. Maybe I'll just say he's a British Chartreux :P

That's awesome, ours doesn't shut up ever either. I asked because Chartreux are said to be uncommonly quiet. Traditionally, the breed was often found in French monasteries, and it's said that Chartreux cats took a vow of silence like the monks they used to live with.

We saw the cat's picture on the shelter's site yesterday night and I immediately knew it was THE cat for my nephew. The kitty is 1 1/2 and he's very friendly; he's used to be around kids (my nephews are 8 and 7). The cat was abandoned because his previous owners had allergy problems. They were the ones who named him.

Have I mentioned yet that my nephews are huge Avengers fan?

The cat is black with gorgeous green eyes; his name is Loki. My nephews are ecstatic!

Yeah, it's pretty stupid to hate on an animal because of superstitions. Personally, I love cats in all shapes, sizes and colors. I tried my best not to look at the other cats at the shelter because I wanted to leave with every single one of them and I felt guilty about taking one and leaving the other behind. I'm dreaming of winning millions at the lottery so I can 1) pay my debts, 2) give to charities and research 3) buy a farm and go live on it with a lot of animals.

Loki the cat is doing great, by the way. He's having fun hunting flies and my brother said that he woke up this morning with the cat asleep on the pillow right next to him, with his butt in my bro's face. That's a behavior pretty much on par with his Norse mythology/comic villain namesake! :D

That's what I did, kept it out of their eyes, and washed them down with a couple bottles of tomato juice. Surprised how well it worked. They're super happy now :)

This stuff, it actually works really well and pet supply stores and vets usually have it stocked. My friend's chihuahua- normally afraid of anything that's not the other dog in the house or my friend- suddenly found her balls when confronted with a skunk and took a blast to the face. Tomato juice didn't work all that well in this case, but Skunk Off did. Poor thing looked absolutely miserable.

After that, I think my friend used the unopened bottle of tomato juice to make a Bloody Mary or 4.

This is a picture of our dog Gabby with my Mother, Gabby's been my best friend for close to five years now. She is without a doubt the sweestest dog I’ve ever own and the source of my stress relief. If she has ever seen me upset, she knows exactly how to calm me down.

Recently she’s been diagnosed with anaemia. Why is it always the good ones that bad things happen to? She’s recovering slowly but with the right medicine we hope to have her home soon.

I don’t know what I would do without Gabby. Please keep her in your thoughts, prayers and hearts as she continues her recovery phase.

Yes! I was thinking when we got her she was half chihuahua because her hair was so short and greased down (and definitely matted), but after a couple months of us feeding her good food and caring for her properly her coat has probably grown half an inch and puffed up a ton.

Sweet dog right? I love seeing greyhound out and about, but their owners all seem to be very protective of them.

It's not so much that the greyhounds' humans are overly protective. It's really the fact that the dogs are so fast that they can't be kept in an open area without a leash. Tying them out in the yard is out of the question because they could either rip the stake out of the ground or strangle and kill themselves on the collar and lead. Retractable leashes aren't a good idea because they could cause injury to either the dog or the person, or take off so fast that you lose your grip.

Another issue is their low body fat and no undercoat. This makes them very prone to the elements. So they need a coat in cold weather and can't be out too long when it's hot out. So keeping them in an outdoor kennel is a very, very bad idea. My hound is strictly a house dog but goes out on a leash to do her business. If/when we fence in the yard we'll be able to just open the door to let her out and back in.

Her name is Delphine. She's crazy. She's 2 years old; I adopted her on December 27 of last year; it was exactly one month after the sudden death of my beloved Clementine. The person who had her (but couldn't keep her because they had another cat who did not accept Delphine into their home and was making her life miserable) called me on Christmas day to ask me if I was interested in having her. I was still mourning my Clementine but I saw this as a sign from her, like she was saying "you gave me a wonderful life, taking care of me even after I was diagnosed with diabetes; here another kitty who needs your love and attention".

Yeah, I'm crazy too so we definitely belong together.

Vinnie died sometime this week. I'm not sure when and it's depressing the fuck out of me. My folks were away for three weeks and the person minding the house said he disappeared on Thursday. Sometime between then and maybe Tuesday someone found him and took him to the vet because he'd gone into renal failure. No tattoos or collar, so they couldn't find his owners, but it's a small community so the word spread. He had to be put down before the word reached us, I think my sister went down yesterday to identify him, or the vet sent her photos (she lives elsewhere). He was the sweetest thing, he literally followed me home when he was a kitten. 1997-2013.

Wall-E!!! She's 5 and a half now. She is super smart but a little scaredy cat and was the runt in her litter. She gets the mail, and knows words "ball" and "toy" and "bone" and "spiders!" and "birds" and "go to the kitchen" or "find Daniella!! (me ^.^)". She also learned how to get this picture of a puppy off of the fridge when we say "get the baby". It was an accident but its such a cute trick. For some reason we were never able to teach her to give paw though..... She loves to swim and is not a barker. Wall-E!! She is a girl but I named her that because we got her right after the movie came out and she had super sad eyes. She is half lab half golden. I think she is super cute! She also watches TV for hours with us its pretty weird. If its animated or has horses like Pride and Prejudice she'll pretty much watch the whole thing...

Like the rescue part, sorry to hear about the cancer. My parents lost their Chesapeake Bay retriever to cancer (that they were going to try to treat) followed by a broken leg. They thought it was going to be too hard for her. She was ten. THEN, they got a chocolate lab who had to be put down when she was four because of a weird wasting disease due to an inability to absorb... something, I can't recall what. That was rough. Their current chocolate seems to be all good, except for trying to eat EVERYTHING that he shouldn't, the dummy!

Ill post some pictures of him when i get them, but i just have to get something out because its too sad to keep inside. This weekend my dad had to put the last of our dogs Max down, he was about 13 and a chocolate lab/retriever mix. He was so nice to everybody and such a well behaved dog. The poor guy started having mobility problems, because he was a bigger dog and became diabetic too :( Over the course of a week or so just lost it compleatly and he would just collapse and have a really hard time getting back up. His mind never went though, he was always all there, till the end. He would just look at you like "help me i dont know whats going on" and i know it was the humane thing to do, but it still hurts though. We just dint want him to have a stroke and suffer there by himself or fall and get hurt or anything. At the end he was surrounded by people who loved him and he loved too. I worry about my dad because Max was about the only thing he had left after my mom died in 07. :(

I usually dont post stuff like this, and I dont want to be a downer because this really is a joyous thread. But I really dont have any other capacity to get this out. If you read this, thanks. And I should have pix of Maximo by this weekend, he really was a beautiful dog.

Very sad day today.....my parents dog, Honey, was killed by a hit and run driver right in front of my father. :( he's a complete wreck since it was his dog and my mom is even more of a wreck since Honey would always sleep with her at night. :( ugh, this fucking sucks. The last memory I have of her is her laying on my chest asleep this morning......

So Yoda is all done with his surgery today. There turned out to be a total of 12 puppy teeth that needed to be pulled and the little guy handled it like a champ. :) When they brought him out from the back office, he was all groggy until the moment he saw me. It was then that he went nuts and starting whining while trying to pull himself out from under the blanket :)

i love ferrets!!! my friend had two when we were kids (cumulus and luna). cumulus used to crawl up the inside of my pants, pop his head out of my waistband, and just hang out there. it was adorable. except for when he peed on me.

Ferrets are pretty cool but not sure if I'd want to own one. One ferret I watched for a while loved to poop in his food bowl, I would clean it, then he'd come out and poop on my floor. Poop stain wouldn't come off the tile..that was some serious stuff. He could scoot underneath doorways too. Owner wanted me to keep him, you know how that goes:p.. I said no and to pick him up...they can clean the poop.

I agree, ferrets are cute and can be quite clever but gross if left to roam around freely. My friend has 4 that she lets roam around their tiny apartment and they poop everywhere, steal food and hide it in the sofa which then rots and smells..i can't even go over to her house anymore because its so gross. Granted, they seemed to have gotten used to the smell/mess so I guess it doesn't bother them anymore but jesus I could not live that way.

I pet sat for 3 cats recently and their owner is obsessive about keeping litterboxes clean. she had 4 litterboxes scooped three times daily and her entire apartment reeked of ammonia. some cats just smell worse than others...

Last month I took the Hound to get her nails done at Petco. (We couldn't get her to her regular groomer.) Someone came in with a greyhound and when I heard his name I knew that he was one of my dog's last puppies. So we had to get a picture of them together. Needless to say they were very eager to meet again. That's my girl on the left and her baby boy on the right. (Note the Hound's "I made him!" face.)
