found this article pretty humorous.
Industrial-rock titans Nine Inch Nails are still hoping to tour Australia in the not-too-distant future despite declining to join the bill for hard-rock festival Soundwave next year.
The first wave of Soundwave artists was announced on Friday and, following strong industry rumours, many were expecting to find Nine Inch Nails at the top of it. There was further talk that the band were being held for a second line-up announcement but it has since been confirmed on Twitter by both Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah and Nine Inch Nails main man Trent Reznor that the union is off.
Reznor was dignified, tweeting: "Australia: we love you and we're coming. Didn't feel Soundwave was the right vibe for us or our fans – working on a better scenario."
Maddah, who isn't exactly known for his diplomatic skills, was less pleasant. When one Twitter follower asked where Nine Inch Nails were on the Soundwave bill, he replied: "Up their own arse sadly."

He told another: "Trent wants to be mainstream now and reach Justin Timberlake's audience," later adding that those words came from the Nine Inch Nails camp and were "not mine".
Maddah appeared to further quote from such interactions intimating that Reznor said "he no longer wants 'goths & people in black' & feels the need to find a 'more sophisticated audience"'.

AJ's a well known douche and is no doubt expressing some butthurt at being turned down (NIN's played his festival before). it's also pretty laughable to think of trent reaching justin timberlake's fan-base while playing... well, the majority of NIN's back catalogue.
but what do we think, is trent leaning towards a more "mainstream" audience this tour? i don't know too much about the international festivals/venues he's booked, but is he catering to more "sophisticated audiences"?
