Admin Edit: Continuing from NIN-spotting from the first half of the year (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/threads/1339-NIN-Spotting-2013-(Part-1-2))...

Anyway, all sources indicate that the new single is coming out next week for sure.

What is your basis/source(s) for thinking this?

Some radio DJs have claimed they have heard it too apparently.

I learned a long time ago, never trust a DJ. Always talking bullshit to get people to listen to their suffering station.

Having said that... I'll get behind Antiquiet. I don't know that any DJs have heard a new track, but I don't think Johnny Firecloud would post something like that without consulting the well-placed sources of which he speaks. Ages ago, I wanted to expand the NIN Hotline to something less focused on a single band, and had that happened, I would have hoped it would have turned out basically the way Antiquiet did.

This guy apparently heard the track on Friday (http://www.rock951online.com/topic/station_blog.php):

"Today, I will hear the new Nine Inch Nails tune, which I am very much looking forward to."

More than one radio DJ has admitted to hearing the new NIN track. Maybe some are looking for attention, but others are definitely not. I'd say the new song is a safe bet this week.

where is this supposed June 6th date coming from?

It's not confirmed by anyone yet, but antiquiet posted about it a month ago when we thought there were only going to be two new NIN songs. http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2013/05/new-nine-inch-nails-song-arriving-june-6/
Now in theory, a new song on thursday could happen with a release of US tour dates.

There's a Brazilian show called "A Menina Sem Qualidades" (The Girl With No Qualities), and the fourth episode nearly made me jump out of my chair when a NIN song started playing. It was Lights In The Sky.

"NOW I'M IN A BAND WITH A 19-YEAR-OLD AND A 24-year-old," says Bob. "I learn from them, and they pick up a few tips from the old dog, too, so it's cool. Josh, the guitarist, recently turned down a tour with Nine Inch Nails, and when I asked him why, he said, 'It just doesn't excite me -- anybody could play the guitar parts in Trent Reznor's music.

I never realized Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers) turned down a role in NIN.... (back in 1999)

Speaking of playing the guitar parts in TR's music…

for those who care about such guitar trivia: after one week of rehearsal I have determined a drop D tuning will be my standard tuning. it fits NIN music better than standard tuning. I have also developed an alternate tuning for what I call "swarm guitar", the big humming guitar sound Trent often favors. that tuning will remain secret for the moment. back to work! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Adrian-Belew/6696764994?hc_location=timeline

Interesting. I gotta say, as someone who took over a forum that completely vanished, in a way I'm glad the old posts are irretrievable.

I wouldn't object to a read-only archive of the old site, but life goes on without it.

I'd love this. To this day I still come across links to the old ETS with info on things which are not anywhere else I can find easily (most recently, the "and all that should have been" bootlegs). In fact I'm prepared to try and make this happen. I could probably host it. Perhaps I should raise this elsewhere.

What about The Spiral?

I seem to recall a fairly comprehensive archive of the interesting bits of the Spiral, forums included.

I doubt it meant anything. He just named couple of artists (Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails, Jack White) as an example who are under Sony Music Entertainment (Columbia Records).
I'm not saying that Daisy won't be a service on the console at some point but the names were only there as an example.

We've known for a while that Belew wasn't gonna tour anymore but I'm not sure if the official news regarding his departure has been posted yet. Found this today though:

"Adrian Belew has left Nine Inch Nails (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/nineinchnails) almost as quickly as he joined them. The King Crimson guitarist abruptly announced that he has quit the group's new lineup, seven weeks before they are due to begin a tour.Writing on Facebook, Belew seemed at once resigned and haggard from his experience as part of Trent Reznor (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/trent-reznor)'s band: "Hey folks … I greatly respect Trent and the music he makes. No one is at fault. [But] we both agreed it just was not working … NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating [my solo album] Flux."
He later removed that message, replacing it with something much more glib: "Concerning me being part of the 2013 Nine Inch Nails band," he wrote, "it didn't work."

http://www.avclub.com/articles/kanye-west-yeezus,99105/

Even by the standards of an artist who reinvents himself with each release, it’s a drastic departure, so committed to its heavy new sound that it’s easy to picture West hearing Pretty Hate Machine for the first time and immediately racing to the studio to tear down his John Mayer posters.

I usually imagine Trent Lane as a pre-NIN Reznor when watching Daria. Makes it funnier.
They do have a similar tortoise-slow, Mariana Trench-deep drawl.

Well, you can just hire contractors for that, look at the whole YZ ARG, there's no way reznor and sheridan would have achieved that on their own either. If they wanted to bother, they could pretty much do whatever they want, I just think it's too much hassle for them, and they want to focus on what really interests them. I mean, the whole YZ era and subsequent tour must have been a real bitch to handle, seeing how they had to control every moment of it, and were regarded as responsible if something went south...

Thats actually a very good point. I forgot how much PHYSICAL marketing went into YZ as well as Internet stuff. USB keys, telephone lines, meet ups, secret gigs, huge artwork billboard posters, cellphone distribution and 'abduction' vans, posters with codes on, badges with 'shards' on, wow.....as well as the dozens of Internet sites, videos, sound clips, emails!

Yeah, after they talked about bumming Trent out, they took a commercial break and then played "Hurt", and had one more segment with him. I don't remember the exact quote, but he said something about how the drums on The Slip were meant to sound like they were in a garage, and with Hesitation Marks he ended up going with a more electronic sound, "for lack of a better word." He also implied that "Came Back Haunted" wasn't his first choice for the first single, but that Columbia convinced him to release it because it was more hook-driven than the other songs on the album, and had similarities to classic NIN.

They said it should be up on KROQ.com in a few hours.

I hope they release that other track as a single asap, I'm curious about how different it is.

Regarding CBH, I honestly kind of hated it when it was released, but after a billion listens now I've to admit that I like it, although I would have preferred a different song for the single (assuming there are better songs in the album, maybe CBH is the best track XD).

Didn't know that, about my case, i was contacted by universal (i insist it wasn't interscope, but hey, Universal is french), and they did ask me to remove or hide "our" (because i invited 3 other sites to hear) test webpage, and stop mentionning it. Small spotting in an article about "Dumb Band Names" in the section on Dave Matthews Band:

There are probably people with less exciting names in the world than Dave Matthews, but we've yet to hear about them. When Matthews formed a band in 1991, he could have called it anything. He didn't have to name it Dave Matthews Band to let everyone know he was in charge.Trent Reznor (a much cooler name than Dave Matthews) went with Nine Inch Nails, yet everyone knew he was the mastermind behind that group. But Dave Matthews went with the Dave Matthews Band, and forever we're stuck with it. I guess he's smart, though. There's no way anyone can fire him, though we imagineJohn Geils felt that way once too – until the J. Geils Band fired him last year. Poor guy.

unfortunately, i was huge into the dave matthews band when i was younger, so i know the story behind the name:

they were booked to play a show at a bar, but without a name. when they got there and were loading stuff in, someone asked what to put them down as, and one of the band members replied "just put it under dave matthews" but whoever wrote it down amended "band" and it was their breakthrough gig, so it stuck.

i really wish i didn't know that...

Am I right with the assumption that production rehearsals automatically means that the production will be kind of big on the first leg of the tour already? They wouldn't need production rehearsals if their only production were some cool lights.

CA: Let’s talk about the theme song. It’s got a feel that’s not completely in line with what people like me are used to. I grew up with Batman: The Animated Series and are used to that very orchestrated, horns-and-strings-heavy kind of music. And now I’m familiar with the Hans Zimmer score to the Christopher Nolan movies. This has got a whole different feel.

GM: It’s lo-fi, ’60s-inspired, kind of rock music. British Invasion indie rock. That’s all the stuff I like. When Mitch and I talked about the show, we said we’re going to focus on aspects of the show that we felt like people hadn’t seen with Batman. We focused more on ’70s detective and cop shows, but it’s also kind of a Bond/spy film, too.

MW: Yeah. Another thing we also said very early on, which goes to what you were just saying about Hans Zimmer and stuff like that, was we said we specifically didn’t want to do that. Glen and I, from the very beginning, we were obsessed with going much more minimalistic with the music. More soundscapes than actual orchestration.

Specifically, we looked at bands like Hooverphonic and Trent Reznor’s music for The Social Network. It was an active and very specific choice not to do the big, bombastic John Williams or Hans Zimmer-type scores. When we went to Frederik Wiedmann, who did the music for the show, that was sort of the marching order we gave him. One of the things we did very early on, when we started listening to the music, was we’d literally go into Freddy’s scores and just take out instruments. We just took stuff out until we got down to the core of what we wanted to do. We very consciously wanted it to have a different sound than the other shows.

Apparently, she is suggesting that she is, in fact, impoverished to the point of only affording one major concert every six months to a year. I say this without judgement, as I am in the same situation. I will see NIN only once this year. But, much like Ms. Grimes, it will be NIN that I spend my hard-earned on.

Back in the old school ETS days, Leviathant used to post these on TNH (or another mod) and we'd have threads for them, trying to make NIN win any of these polls. But I think the interest in them kinda died down after a while, and there never used to be as many of them as there are now, so it was easier to keep track of.
