Thought I had already started a thread, but maybe just discussed it in the news thread. Either way, this deserves a thread.

Release date announced as November 19th in NA, and the 22nd everywhere else. We've already seen all the previous trailers, but this release date trailer that dropped today is fantastic.

Overseas special edition bundles include a figurine and uhh....'Adrian Pearce's hat and mask' (yeahhh...that's a...a good...idea?) NA bundles announced soon. For all current gen consoles, PS4 and 'other next gen consoles' i.e. the new Xbox.

DO WANT.

Definitely getting this, but I think I'm gonna wait until I have a next-gen console. I'll probably be getting the PS4 first if the new inFamous game comes out at launch or soon after, and this game looks so good I'd like to have the best version possible.

Haven't decided on which next gen console i'm going with yet. But whatever (and whenever) I get, this will probably be the first game I pick up. Been hyped for it since I first saw that gameplay trailer last year.

Really psyched for this. Looks great.

Do we know of any incentive to pick it up on PS4/Xbox Whatever as opposed to PS3 or Xbox 360? Aside from better graphics? Just curious.

Piko

Hopefully not. PS4 is supposed to be more accessible to developers. So, hopefully, there isnt an inferior console port. Really too soon to tell.

05-01-2013, 07:15 AM
Yeah I don't know how much of a difference it will make between PS3 and PS4, but since I'll most likely be buying a PS4 November-December I might as well get this on that system is what I meant. I really hope the final game lives up to all the awesomeness of what we've seen so far.

Piko

Depends on whether or not they developed for next gen or not. If they did, then the ps3/360 versions will likely be scaled down versions. And if they developed for current gen, well, I wouldn't expect anything drastic.

october_midnight
05-10-2013, 11:12 AM
How the current and next-gen versions will differ, straight from the developer. (http://www.oxm.co.uk/53807/watch-dogs-how-the-xbox-360-and-next-gen-xbox-versions-differ/)

Long story short, the core game, size, etc. will be identical...but the environmental 'trappings' will be vastly greater on next-gen. Pretty much what was to be expected.

Also, another review article.

Looking incredible. (http://kotaku.com/the-best-ideas-in-watch-dogs-a-game-that-should-be-on-499661922?rev=1368191837&utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Twitter&utm_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow)

Yeah, I agree. I have it pre-ordered for PS3, but I'm thinking about actually bumping it up to PS4, that way I can start the next generation off with something that will (presumably) be pretty awesome! I'm not gonna get one until a month or two after launch, though, so I'd have to wait a bit before jumping in, but I feel like it'll be worth the wait.

I'm in the same boat, it launches November 19th for current gen, and since the Xbox One is 'November' it'd at most be an 11 day or so wait...I'll wait for the Xbox One.

I'd assume all the videos we've been seeing have been running on either PS4 or Xbox One. I wonder how different the PS3/360 counterparts will look. Have they released any videos of it running on the weaker systems?

I don't think so, but I believe I linked to an article where one of the devs was asked about the difference and he said the core game, missions, voice...everything was intact on current-gen. They said of course they couldn't divulge all the other things that'd be on the next-gen, but that the world itself (graphics, etc.) would be miles better.

Does anyone else get the feeling this is going to be the Assassins Creed of the next gen? I remember the hype before the first AC came out and it felt very similar.

Just announced, a new Watch_Dogs app will be released at launch that lets you screw around with your friend as they play. You log in to the app and get an overhead map with which you can impede and/or interfere with your friend who's on the console actually playing. Both will get xp and in-game rewards.

The game has been delayed until the Spring of 2014

A little disappointing as this was gonna be my first game for the PS4 but if I can handle the GTA V wait I'll be able to manage this. Plus I rather them polish the game up and fix any glitches or things rather then releasing it just for the sake of meeting a deadline. Gonna have to find another game to get for my PS4 now.

That was an interesting way of discovering the problem with the final product, too. It's like they put themselves in the position of the future players and saw things that would grate on people who were so excited for such a hyped released. If it had gone through and been released in November, it sounds like it would have suffered from the same mistakes that the first Assassin's Creed had, in regards to ENDLESS repetition after some play time. Even the little things like running through a crowd actually became something I hated to do, just because I would see and hear the same people and conversations over and over and over...

With this? Shit. It sounds like they really have it together as far as ensuring that stagnation is kept at bay so that people can keep playing for longer without getting bored and thinking "Well, that was fun. Hey, where'd my $60 go? Aw..." I might be saving up for a PS4 now and picking this up at launch. Maybe. (Also, gotta gear up for MGS5 - MGS4 led me to the PS3, so it only makes sense that MGS5 leads me to get a PS4, heh.) Now we can only hope that this delay prevents Watch Dogs from suffering from AC3 syndrome, which was rife with bugs and is hardly fine-tuned at launch. Day one patches are the wooorst.

On a side note - I was listening to a podcast a couple weeks ago, and one of the hosts was talking about moving into his new apartment, which, it turned out, was being occupied by one of the developers for Watch Dogs at the time! So when he came in and toured the apartment, he and the developer talked a bit, and after they found out they were both into gaming, he knew he HAD to ask the dev for any information at all regarding Watch Dogs' development process, but he wouldn't say a word. Something like, "I REEEEALLY want to say something, but there's literally not a single thing I can tell you, otherwise my head will be on a platter." I can only hope that stands testament to what we can expect from the game, and not just the usual pre-launch secrecy we get.

Devs really do have to think that far ahead now. Long gone are the days when a game would last someone months and years. Now it's OMG ITS OUT, OMG IM BORED WITH IT, CAMPAIGN ONLY 10 HOURS LONG?! My wife and I were playing PvZ Garden Warfare a few nights ago and no joke, one dude after 7 days had SEVENTY THREE HOURS played in the thing. More than 10 hours a day. A) go outside....it's cliche to say, but seriously, games are fun but you're missing out on a lot lol. B) No wonder people get so bored of games so quickly! As big as a game is, it'll never have a campaign that takes 4000 hours to get through unless it was 10,000gB in size.

I'm the same way. I don't really understand binging with entertainment. I don't get it with games and I don't get it it with TV shows. I bought Thief last week and have only clocked in about 3 hrs of total playtime. I've owned Dead Rising 3 since release and have only managed to get to Chapter 3 so far. If someone like me, whom you say is on 24/7 which I'm not anymore, agrees that too much time some people spend is ridiculous then there's a problem. :p

I had a friend that did the same thing. He even knew it was stupid, buuut he kept doing it. He even went as far as doing it with consoles. He'd buy one, then when he was bored with it, sell it back less than a year later. He wasted every dollar he had, and now he's wasting more money buying a bunch of shit back that he'll probably re-sell!

To keep on topic, I DO see this game having lots of replay value. Even if not for the story, at least to just get lost in Chicago and take in the atmosphere of the game. It sounds like it'll be really easy to get immersed in.

Cool to hear them answer the questions regarding graphics, multiplayer, etc. and as to why they hate rewards for playing 'stealth' and 'side missions' ("I hate the term 'side mission'. Those are fetch quests. We have an entire open world...it's all one giant mission.") Fast forward to about 18:30 for everything (first part is just talking about why they delayed and trailers).

Five Additional Single Player Packs = Character Skins
Conspiracy Game Mode = Nice
Single Player Campaign with T-Bone = Nice and only worthy item here.

Useless stuff lumped together to make it sound more appealing. The Conspiracy Game Mode and Single Player Campaign are only thing of value in this and I bet you'd spend less than $20.00 to get them both.

I'm really excited to play this, but I'm also hesitant...Does this game have the same hand-holding tendencies as Ubisoft's other games, like Far Cry and Assassin's Creed? I feel like this company comes up with the coolest game ideas but then always shoot themselves in the foot by babysitting players way too much and undermining the sense of exploration and creativity. I've noticed this thing in a lot of their games (and to be fair, other companies too) where the missions feels too scripted and every single collectible and "secret" location is clearly marked on a magical GPS system and there's always some stupid pop message to tell you what to do instead of letting you figure it out on your own. Watch Dogs looks like such an awesome game, but I really want to get lost in that world and just stumble around and discover everything in my own way. I hate it when I'm trying to make a gaming experience my own and instead I feel like Ubisoft is there guiding me along some prescribed path.

I think it's great. It's pretty open, imo. Several different ways to finish a mission. You can sneak in, shoot your way in, or hack through it without ever really getting your feet wet. I've done a couple missions where I did was hack and not even step foot in the place. I'm not very far, so that could change (hopefully). But, the game is exactly what they said it was going to be. Then again, I think LA Notre is one of greatest games, ever. So, take my opinion for what it's worth.

The other folks on here seem to think so: i dont.

I cant dig it up right now, but there is a video comparison of the e3 debut video and the actual mission in the finished game and the difference is infuriating.

Its like a shitty GTA but you have a hacking device as a novelty. The hacking device is neat, but its not as much of a standout as you would think.

The story is horribly, horribly bland and cliche, the characters are empty. Its a major disappointment and im considering trading it in to see if Wolfenstein is any better.

A lot of the problems remind me of the first Assassins Creed.

Also the controls are a bit wonky and the camera is set in way to close.... L3 to reload... What?

Piko
05-29-2014, 09:50 AM
I'll agree about the story. It is pretty bland. But I'd say it's not bad either. Nothing special about it. Aiden is a pretty dull protagonist. But, imo, the other characters make up for that. Only other gripe I have is the driving. A more thought out morality system would've been nice. If you're hacking a guy's bank account, who has cancer, there should be repercussions. Aside from those things, I like it. Far from perfect though.

I wanted an xbox one to play this game. I got a day one xbox one and patiently waited. It's very average. Like some say, assassins creed with a tech skin. I live in Chicago, so I love seeing familiar sights and streets. If it was set elsewhere, I'm not sure I'd care. Hacking is a fun gimmick, but this doesn't grab me like gta v. Graphics are very xbox 360. GOOD game, but I'll play it through for the fun of it.

Lol I have played like nearly 20 hours since the game came out and I am barely a few missions into ACT II been doing a mix of main and side missions. Will probably continue that way til the end.

I like the game overall. Is it visually great? No but it's not bad. Aiden is sorta generic but I agree with you Piko some of the other characters at least add some life to the game. Also the driving fucking sucks.

Wish all the costumes in the shop didn't make you look the same but in a different color, c'mon Ubisoft.

Overall though I've had fun playing, def lots to do the map is pretty decent too. Been hacked a few times and finally got some poor sucker. I am interested to see how the rest of the game turns out. Not bad so far.

There are a lot of things to do. A lot of really mediocre things, for sure.

Cup and ball- turn brightness all the way up and pause when you are cued to pick a cup. You'll be able to faintly see the ball.

Pretty much done almost all of the convoys, got all the gang hideouts and hotspots checked in. Some of the convoys are tough as fuuuuuck. One is trying to knock down a swat member, who's being escorted by other crooked swat members lol...what a bitch that was.

Loving team online decryption as well. All that's left for me is like the last 2/3 of the main campaign hahaha.

LOL that article is funny. I only usually read about the first two lines of those things mind you, because I'm in my mid 30's, and was gaming when most of the people who wrote those pieces of shit were still running headfirst in to walls.

Anytime I see someone bash on games these days, it makes me just wanna slap them for being so ridiculously stupid and self-entitled. Think about it objectively for just one second...

That's a game.

That's a fucking game. I remember playing Rock 'n' Roll racing for the fuckin' SNES.

Fuck me, anyone with half a brain my age can't help but think, as cliched as it sounds, kids today don't know what they've got...and they moan and whine and groan and cry. These people can actually go fuck themselves silly. Actually fuck themselves. I think of things like how my father, who passed in 1999 and was big in to computers, taught me that computing and gaming was only gonna get more awesome and more awesome. Hell, he barely even got to see much of the internet. THE INTERNET. If I said 'Dad, you should see it...you're running through this street and look out on the water, and can see the buildings reflect in the waves.' He'd say 'Holy shit, how is anyone who sees this not losing their minds.' Now, people piss and moan that the waves have 'too many jaggies'. Eat the fattest dick I can think of.

I feel bad...I'm still one of the few that still just enjoy playing games...that's it. I love gaming. Couldn't care less about pissing and moaning. Game's not that good, go get another or play another. End of story. There's a reason that there's still a stigma about gaming (isn't it a thread here?)...it's because the few of us that still can put something like gaming in to at least SOME kind of context (i know that in 2014, that's asking for the moon) are fucking embarrassed by the other 99% that should just shut their mouths and be happy that we live in a time that we can even fucking play multiplayer.

Love this game. I have like 40-50 hours played (PC version on ultra, fuck yeah).
It has super cool stealth gameplay mechanics, I love vehicle handling and general controls are well done. Shitload of fun content, and that multiplayer stuff like tailing and hacking is ingenious. Even something so mundane as racing is plenty of fun thanks to good handling.
The story is nothing amazing, but it is serviceable and there are some nice moments. And Clara is wonderful really.
I am nearing the end (did all the sidestuff and now starting act 4) but this will be easy 9/10 game for me. Well done Ubi!

Just beat the main missions of the game. Decent story some plot holes but not bad. Def picked up from Act 2 on some stuff could have been drawn out a bit more but not bad at all pretty fun. I also finished all the side stuff and only have the drinking games to go to Platinum it but man are those a fucking bitch I could see those taking me some time because I suck at them.

Probably all together put in anywhere from 40-60 hours for sure. The online playing is pretty fun but I don't understand why on free roam online you can't kill other players lol

Would probably give the game overall a 8.5 out of 10. Also can we get more Jordi please.

-Just something I noticed or at least I thought was that the worst looking cut scenes were the ones that involved your sister/nephew.

Well hopefully the drinking games don't take me forever, I've seen online that a lot of people are having issues with those.

That and winning a table at poker are the only 2 things I have left, and I'm sitting at like 99.2% completion. The easiest drinking game is over with, but the second one in the middle of the map in that sports bar type place, i'm up to level 6 where there's the L and R circles, and you have to keep the targets within them....but they're both moving....in random different directions. There's no way it can be done on anything other than dumb luck.

I stopped playing this game for like 3 weeks, just picked up playing it again yesterday. Jumped up over 25% progression wise (now at 48%) and am on the second mission of Act III. I loved the prison mission at the end of Act I. So much fun with that.

Though the game likes to throw difficulty spikes out of nowhere. A Gang Hideout Mission in Pawnee ("Decapitated") I counted how many times I failed and it took 14 attempts. Hard as fuck. Open cemetery with no cover.

I enjoyed the first game enough but I think I'll pass on the sequel. Hopefully it'd fix the flaws of the first game.
